TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY MIDTOWN PAYDAY LOAN PROTEST IN FRONT OF MAIN STREET SPEEDY CASH!!!
Communities Creating Opportunity (CCO) along with other local faith-based and social justice organizations staged a protest today in front of a Midtown Kansas City Payday Loan establishment.
The protest was in response to a recent Missouri General Assembly decision to leave more payday loan regulation off the ballot.
The protest also included calls to raise Missouri's minimum wage.
It was a good turnout for a midweek afternoon.
For once I was able to use the sweep panorama function on my camera so that was kind of cool.
Shouts of "predatory lending" and other rallying cries echoed through the group.
Today's protest was exceptionally relevant given that Missouri residents use payday loans twice as much as the national average.
As the speeches began there was an ongoing promise to continue the fight against predatory lending and in support of the minimum wage. However, during the latest legislative session it was clear to see that the payday loan industry was successful in preventing even the question of more regulation getting to voters.
