TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! CELEBRATE FIRST YEAR OF K-PAC FAIL!!!

Believe it or not, we have already endured one year of rich white people and mainstream media acting complicitly and pushing propaganda which attempts to convince Kansas City that monuments built to honor the monied class somehow benefit the rest of the broke-ass people in this po'dunk town.
To wit . . .
AFTER ONE YEAR, IT'S CLEAR THE KAUFMAN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IS JUST ANOTHER MOSTLY EMPTY KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN BUILDING SERVING MOSTLY THE MONIED CLASS!!!
The overpriced performances aren't my cup of tea and once again the promise of a "Downtown Renaissance" because of a conveniently located monstrosity has been unfulfilled. Also, building something that looks like a seashell in the Midwest was silly.
Let's not forget to mention so many empty seats at the place . . . Along with the robbery that was a more appropriate welcome to the neighborhood
Sadly, the rest of the local media will be forced to spout propaganda regarding The Kauffman Center’s Inaugural Year while forgetting the adjacent parking lot Kansas City taxpayers paid for despite the fact most locals are too broke to ever socialize with the local elite this place was really built to serve.

Don't be a hater.
I didn't get to vote on that $50 million parking garage.
Actually, the place is a fantastic experience. Yes, it is expensive and a place mostly for the elite, but is is worth visiting at least once.
It sure beats anything else in this town.
What do you expect, midnight basketball sessions to be held there?
Heyyyy....somebody get Sly on the horn!
A building paid for by private funds may b a failure but Union Station, the P&L District, the Sprint Center, 18th & Vine, and dozens of smaller projects are the real problem. If rich people want to spend THEIR MONEY on something we think foolish go ahead, but when the parasites at city hall spend my money on crap I do care.
The parking garage is used by, but not dedicated to the Kauffman Center. The city should be able to make money from the garage.
While people may question whether the Kauffman is for them, it was at least built with private funds. In other words people believed there was a demand, and they put their money where their mouths were--for a change, unlike the hotel and apartment boosters who want our money for their projects.
I think a free KC Symphony Pops Concert with Kemit and Kyle, where the Symphony members all wear sombrero's would even the score
I already brought up the idea of midnight basketball, other guy. It didn't get many laffs then, either.
But honestly, since the rich Jewish crowd bought it and the symphony crowd attends it, they should have put it in Leawood where most of them live.
I hear a lot of events are sold out... and presume they don't sing opera in English there, well, Tony, there are people who like music beyond your low-brow hip hop and Mariachi.
This ain't Chicago or NY or Boston, but the Geritol for Lunch bunch even HERE likes to dress up in their Sunday-gota-Meetin-clothes, Helzberg/Hanoosh clinky jewelry, and listen to the classics once a month.
I know, you can't relate to that, Tony, but you have always loved class warfare. Kind of a Che Guevara thing for you, given you live in your mom's basement. But what ELSE should the south of 63rd old KC/JOCO crowd do? Take the toy train to the KCPL district to get laid or mugged? Don't think so.
Sure miss Putches on the Plaza for an after-theater and drinks late night breakfast! Even Shawnee Mission East kids went there when it was still safe to be on the plaza and JOCO hadn't yet developed their shopping center nearby upscale restaurants.
Moreover, good restaurants were slow to develop in the suburbs and Kansas liquor laws had a lot to do with that....so upscale people had to go to Main Street. No longer.
KCMO is left holding their dicks, watching the suburban weekend money being spent on the Kansas side.
We've always known the problem but don't say it much. Minorities who have no class.
What, your food stamps don't cover admission? You don't like not being "monied", then get off your lazy asses and get a f'ing job.
The funny thing is that the denfenders of the place can't afford it either.
Been there twice. Tickets for the events I went to weren't any more than if it had been at the Midland. And there were no empty seats. Quit whining.
Shut up Mary.
I've been several times. If you get season tickets (in April or May) or buy tickets to single events as soon as they go on sale (early August), then tickets are very cheap. My husband and I go to the symphony (we bought the cheapest season ticket package available) and to the occasional opera. It's fun. And we live in Brookside, not Leawood. (In fact, we feel like we should never have to go to JoCo, since we live in the city, and so we shop and eat out accordingly.) We spent far less on these tickets than we spend on tickets to rock concerts and comedians and the like.
Now, I wish they had some cheaper tickets available closer to the dates of the concerts, though. If you call several weeks ahead, you can usually not get seats at all and if you do, they are expensive. Basically you have to plan way ahead and pay it up front if you want to be guaranteed seats and the cheapest prices. That means many people will be unable to go. But volunteers at the Kauffman Center get to attend lots of events for free, and there are programs for less-fortunate young people, which allows them to enjoy the arts in the area, too. There should be more of that, certainly. But these events are not out of the reach for everyone, and the center is very nice, offering many events. And I've never been to one that wasn't full. Your "fail" headline is not based on reality or factual evidence.
We moved here a year and a half ago from a total shithole town two hours away, and KC is lucky to have this center as well as many other theaters and events and museums. Most places don't offer these things, and taking advantage of these offerings doesn't have to be expensive.
Just because I can't afford it doesn't mean I can't defend it. I can't afford a Bentley but if you can and pay for it with your money I will defend you.
They couldn't afford it. KCMO subsidized the parking garage. Kind of like buying a Bently but asking the government to pay for the tires.
Without them, you're not going anywhere.
Do you want to live in a Cowtown, TKC? Gawd, your hating gets old.
Just cause they don't play hip-hop. Don't hate.
yeah, t, what tkc=sadclown said. now, if you're looking, i've been to several lately i can recommend. while not cowtowns, i think you'd fit right in in lansing or leavenworth. you can hate on the military and prison complexes for a while; you'll go far i'm sure.
Boondoggle, how come I didn't get to vote on the parking garage (or the plaza TDD, which only 2 out of town property owners got to vote on)?
Boondoggle. Toy-theatre. Boondoglle. Corruption KCMO. Moving out. Voter fraud boondoggle no one parks there.
Move the fuck out.
Kansas City keeps subsidizing the 1%
Well i don't care for the centers shows for the most part but it's ok to be here in my book.
But hey look what those ballparks out there cost you taxpayers every year. Look what it costs to see a game out there as well. So it is what it is but I agree the parking garage if paid for by taxpayer dollars should used for more than just the centers use.
Dave-the parking garage IS being used for more than the center--most of the time, in fact.
