TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! MAYOR "SCAB" JAMES?!?! CRITICS CHARGE MAYOR WORKING WITH NON-UNION CONTRACTORS IN HIS RECENT KANSAS CITY DANGEROUS BUILDING DEMOLITION STUNT!!!

A recent press conference from Mayor Sly James has elicited controversy among Kansas City's union advocates and insiders close to local labor.

To wit . . .

LOCAL LABOR INSIDERS KNOW THAT THERE'S NO WAY UNION CONTRACTORS WOULD LET MAYOR SLY AT THE CONTROLS OF A BULLDOZER AND CHARGE THE MAYOR WITH AN INSULT TO KANSAS CITY'S UNIONS BECAUSE OF HIS RECENT PUBLICITY STUNT!!!

The issue didn't come up at the presser because Kansas City's media and political elite have become disconnected with local labor according to sources close to union interests.

Even better, there's confirmation of Mayor Sly's non-union collabo from a Kansas City political insider:

"There's no way that was a union contractor. Not so long ago there was another local politician who wanted to try the same type of stunt and the Unions absolutely shut them down. NOBODY can get behind Union equipment without the proper qualifications and a Union card."

An even more in-depth analysis . . .

"What this means is Mayor Sly James is so out of touch with local labor and there's nobody connected to labor that is advising him. This move is an insult to City Engineering and other labor interests. If he didn't know better, there should have been somebody working in his office who did."

At the time of this posting there hasn't been a response from the Mayor's office on this controversy. We'll post anything they offer.

In the meantime, certain interests in Kansas City Labor seems especially annoyed that there has been a discounnect between Union interest and The Mayor's office.

Developing . . .

Maybe Sly got a second job after all?

How could Genaro Ruiz let this happen! After all, Genaro tells everyone that the Mayor is addicted to his advice and counsel. Genaro had to approve everything I am sure!

fuck a union said...

maybe the mayor decided to be fiscally responsible with the funds set aside for the demolitions. Union companies would have cost 3 to 6 times as much as independent contractors. Go Sly fuck the greedy union cunts.

Fuck the unions!

A lot of working people out of work the Mayor should be helping instead of hurting.

Unions are suffering and when we could help as a City we don't it's a shame.

What everyone is missing, and what is really cool, is KYLE singing about his dad on a tractor!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfA0ENH6DSs

This is the end of Kyle's career as a rapper, and the inevitable CMA Award headlining song by this local talent.

I wouldn't except someone who is a lawyer by trade to understand what it means to work for a living. So it was probably just another oversight.

who works in the mayor's office? Names beyond genaro... who are they? What is the composition of these folks?
and who are his top advisors?

The Mayor showed his hate for unions in the firefighters mess, so this is expected from him.

well just maybe Sly doesn't have an uncle or bro-in-law in the Unionized clan of American socialists so instead of a union card he took a credit card and called up one of the many rental companies in town and got a backhoe sent out to the press conference...
and how amazing is it that he could operate this piece of magical equipment..... Its a backhoe not the space shuttle.. it's not like these operators scored really high in their SAT's and the local sain we just have to recruit that genius..

Good job Sly.

Too bad no one noticed the demolition work being done in violation of EPA rules. All kinds of dust flying around that could have been contaminated. Other folks in the city were prosecuted.

The fact that this is an issue shows the stupidity of working with unions. Hopefully he saved the city some money and went with the best deal. I am sure the workers of whatever company apreciate the work as well.

The Unions where not so bad when Sly accepted thousands of dollars from them. He took their money and then doublecrossed them typical politician.

I wonder if the Mayor wears shoe that are made in a union shop??? His Suits???OMG the filling in his left front tooth wasn't put in by a union dentist. How dare he.

Good catch on this one. That's how it is at city hall nowadays. The mayor has an idea and everybody jumps. I don't expect Mcgurk or genaro to know that this is a big deal to the unions.

Unions are SO 1950.

A sign of the times for failed leadership in kansas city unions.

It doesn't matter what the unions will allow - they don't own the city just yet. What needs to matter is how much of this silly shit the taxpayers will allow. If the Unions want to complain about something maybe they should check out the undocumented (illegals) working on all those roofs in the Metro.

where is Cleaver on a tank? take out the unions.

Why doesn't Theresa Garza-Ruiz say something about this? She is paid to fight for union workers, but for some reason she is looking the other way on this issue.

As usual in KCMO, what gets done isn't anywhere near as important as what gripe some group has about WHO'S doing it.
What did the black lesbian Jewsih bicycle team have to say about this? Wouldn't want to leave anyone out!

To those of you who are saying people need to work (unions). Do you think non-union folks don't need the work. A non-union contractor would have to work 3x as many jobs like this to make what a union worker would earn in one job. EVERYONE needs work... non-unions just have to work more. Get over yourselves.

Sly has already made it clear he is not for the Union workers. He has made his choice. I'll wait to make mine.

I always wanted a union job, but I never had the social connections.

9:05, I would have guessed skill was lacking, but if you're saying connections I'll take your word for it.

What skill? You don't need a Ph.D. to work a union job. You only need a union father or father-in-law.
