Strike Implications For Kansas City Teachers

A look at an education hot mess that's creating quite a stir . . .

Chicago teachers strike reverberates nationwide

In Kansas City this story is exceptionally interesting given that the School Board was cracking down on teachers until their leadership hit a major bump in the road i.e. The Superintendent bailed on all of his big promises.

Now educators and administrators in Kansas City are watching to see the strength of their bargaining position with a KCMO district that still doesn't have accreditation.

  1. The past two generations schooled in this country are a lost cause. Only hope left to turn it around is making sure ages 1-10 get an education that goes beyond drinking beer and being an asshole in general.

  5. When, for the sake of all that is real, when the public realize that it is NOT the teachers that need reforming, it is the parents?! How can any justify poor quality education given extreme proverty and extreme lack of parenting?!

  6. 7:10 I think the whole educational system is a failure. Yes, I believe the parents are failing as a whole also. The government wants to be a parent to your child and people are accepting this more and more. They want to feed your kid breakfast, lunch, and give them a take away bag for supper. I remember when they took God out of the schools. It takes a really big government to replace God. It will never work.

  7. I always like these stories where folks making and average of 30K a year are supposed to support a Union were the average employee makes 80K a year. Turning down another 16 percent increase while considering that school is so good in Chi-town that 40 percent of the students never graduate? Real smart move teach. Perhaps teacher evaluations should at retention rate factors.
