SHAME ON THE ROASTERIE FOR PROMO BLIGHT ON KANSAS CITY'S WESTSIDE!!!

Sadly, local mainstream media is celebrating a local company helping to destroy a working class Kansas City neighborhood.

To wit . . .

SHAME ON THE ROASTERIE FOR THEIR INSANE PROMO PLANE CLUTTERING UP AND BLIGHTING THE SKYLINE OF KANSAS CITY'S WESTSIDE!!!

Even more . . .

IF THIS IS SUCH A GREAT PROMO THEN WHY DIDN'T THEY HANG THIS UGLY HUNK OF METAL OVER BROOKSIDE?!?!?

The answer is . . . It's just the same old SUPREMACY that powers gentrification just as much as overpriced coffee.

More than a few members of the TKC Family live in close proximity to this eyesore and the Roasterie didn't ask anybody if they wanted to turn their neighborhood into a landing strip.

I'm tempted to launch another TKC Boycott but their coffee is really damn good.

Nevertheless . . . While local media celebrate an ugly promo plane . . . What's clear is that this local luxury coffee maker is content to blight the Westside while selling their product to the local elite.

DEVELOPING . . .

I now can't tell if you're stupid or insane

seriously, you're either losing it or you lost it

there's no pleasing you, is there?

why are you here?

why are you still here?

dude you're wiggin'

Actually, TKC makes a pretty good point. They could have never put anything like this in Brookside. When they build the first Roastarie here there was almost a year of deliberations.

And I also agree with Tony that their coffee is wonderful.

A tough choice.

The plane wouldn't fit in Brookside or they would put one there too. Also I think Brookside is leased and they own this facility. Either way I think the plane is very cool and the neighbors should be pleased that a company is investing in their neighborhood and creating jobs. The Roasterie rocks!!

Dv3 said...

Just like Boulevard. They Roastarie hasn't created NOT ONE SINGLE JOB for people in the neighborhood.

They only hire their friends.

If the West Side was serious about filing a discrimination complaint. These two companies would be an excellent place to start.

That plane is UGLY.

Destroying the skyline? You have completely lost it.

Paul Ryan said...

Roasterie sucks. Only homosexuals and communists drink their coffee.

Go to Starbucks!

skyline: The line along which the horizon is visible.

Not anymore with this bullshit artifact blocking the way.

Fuck you Roastarie.

Hmmm...thought Habaneros was the only business in the kc area that had an airplane on their building

Anonymous said...

Hey I know! On 9/11 let's put a plane on top of a building. Brilliant.

Anonymous said...

Yeah! And damn those Google people for putting up a billboard with that rainbow bunny on it ruining the lovely ambiance of the neighborhood.

Please tell me this post is sarcasm.

Anonymous said...

Skyline? The area is in a valley! All you see is trees, small houses with beer cans in their front yards and I-35.

Which is more of a blight: A local business reinvesting their profits in a downtrodden community or the WS27 and WS23 gang graffiti laden about the area?

And I guess it's a working class community, if you subtract all the gang's income out of the equation.

And what gentrification argument do you have? To gentrify somewhere you would need cool white kids to be attracted to the area. That's not at all the case.

The northeast is the prime target for current gentrification.

I usually like your stuff, but this is classless. The multiple billboards in your photos destroy just as much skyline, are relatively the same size, and are for non-local promotion.

Shame on you!

Still, not as ugly as the Eifel Tower.

Tony's Balony said...

They won, you lost. Deal with it.

Tony is right. This is the west side. It should have been a low rider with dingleberries and fuzzy dice.

Anonymous said...

They should have mounted a "Chebby" with big fake gold mags, tinted windows, subs and hydraulics instead. Perfect symbol of progress of the West Side.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry Tony you'll get your own statue there in the West Side eventually. In loving memory of KC's greatest blogger. LOL

Anonymous said...

And "they only hire their friends". Who do they think they are, the Kansas City School District?

Anonymous said...

I doubt Tony will be immortalized sitting next to Churchill down on the Plaza. Haha

Anonymous said...

How many jobs have you created and people have you hired for your "publishing operation" Tony?

Web Nitwits Inc said...

He doesn't need to hire anyone, this is the Internet. Ya jus git a cheap free template and start yapping bullsheet on the webs and your rich and famous immediately. (Keeping in mind that in universal time immediately can be 10,000 years or even longer.)

Mr. W. said...

You are totally overestimating their coffee TKC. A shame they did't talk to the neighborhood first.

Anonymous said...

If they'd have hung this "ugly hunk of metal" over Brookside you'd be complaining tht they get all the cool, classic airplanes and the West Side just gets the damn factory.

Anonymous said...

Should of been a giant sombrero painted green and red.

Anonymous said...

4:05 nailed it; the plane is awesome; get a life.

If people invest it's gentrification; if people don't invest it's because they're racists.

Just because YOU didn't get a job there doesn't mean they only hire their friends!

I want to start getting coin for all these posts Botello!

$20 a comment! So you owe me thousands in back pay as of today dude!

xalti said...

New to the site? That's how TKC makes a profit. He sells the comments to a multi-national and they use it as market research. It's the same deal as Zuckerburg.

I'm kidding.

Or am I.

Denise G. said...

Who ever said that they only hire their friends is right. Boulevard and Roastarie have a horrible record of hiring minorities despite their location. But the city won't do anything about it because of bad press.

Then the talented beaners should start making their own tequila. Name it after Tony. Cabo Slob-oh. And the brothers can make their own beer. Call it Killah City. Tag line, "If it don't kill ya, we will". That's what enterprising entrepreneurial people do. Only problem is the black-tino's aren't enterprising or entrepreneuerial. It's just easier to steal it from the white man on the street or at the government trough.

New target for Ernest T. Bass.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Tony should just raise a giant Mexican Flag over his house. Not that anyone would give a shit or anything.

Anonymous said...

I hope it is secured down real good. If not the scrappers will have it in no time.

Anonymous said...

That plane looks better than anything else on the west side.

Including most of the denizens....

Anonymous said...

I'd buy that for a dollar.

Anonymous said...

Not much different than the TWA rocket, really, and that's just a few blocks away.

Anonymous said...

The west side is a joke.

Now if they had built a park and playground around it, they might have actually done something.

Their coffee is ok, I drink more to support a local business than I do because it is the best thing on the market.

Superdave said...

Never tried the stuff myself have heard mixed reviews about it.

But since I am not a huge coffee drinker might be a long time before I do try it.

chuck said...

I think the plane looks cool as hell.

Really.

Superdave said...

I am Swedish for the most part and when I do drink coffee it's Gevalia for the most part. It's Swedish coffee from the country that drinks more coffee than almost anywhere else.

Drove by it today, was hoping they would drop a bale of cheeba out of it. Turned out the only thing dropped on my car was pigeon shit and a wino stumbled into the fender crossing the street to get to Crown liquor.

I remember the "Constalation Bar" at 43'd & Main.....now that was cool!
Just getting down Main was a trip.
Had the rotating belly light, and nav. lights too. Never went inside though. Original TWA paint also.

The Roasterie is run by a bunch of snobs and their coffee sucks. And this was a waste of a good DC-3 that would have been better used elsewhere.

SuperPooper is an Aryan. What a surprise. I bet you're one of those freaks with blonde hair & blue eyes. Is this why you call yourself SuperDave, because you're a member of the master race?

For Tony not liking the DC3, he sure published a lot of pictures of it. I've actually never seen the west side except for some poster on a telephone poll he published.

I'd be interested in knowing what the best restaurants are because that'd be a draw to introduce the community to their culture here.

There's upscale Manny's and.... what else? Anything in town like South Texas' Taco Cabana where the fajitas are cooked with mesquite? Good beer, great food and stand in line to order... the Latino McDonalds of Texas?

I'm surprised Tony doesn't actually promote the west side's businesses to the news and political public on his site, given he claims to be latino.

We Kansas Citians do so dislike those who succeed.

Anonymous said...

Good coffee. Nice to see a local business succeed like this. Too bad a bunch of skank blogger crybabies can't recognize success.
