Gov. Jay Labor Day E-Mail Blast

A Labor Day message from Gov. Jay . . .
Honoring Our Workers
As everyone enjoys the long holiday weekend, it’s important to remember that Labor Day is about more than parades, barbecues and picnics. It’s about honoring our dedicated workers – the men and women who wake up early, come home late and move our economy forward.
I firmly believe that there’s nothing more rewarding than a hard day’s work – and I want every Missourian who wants a job to have one. That’s why I’ve worked tirelessly to help Missouri businesses create new jobs – and make sure Missouri workers have the skills needed to compete for those jobs.
And on that front, we’re clearly moving in the right direction.
We brought Democrats and Republicans together to revive Missouri’s auto industry, and now Ford and GM are investing over $1.4 billion in Missouri, creating more than 3,000 new jobs. We partnered with Enbridge, an energy company that is building a pipeline through Missouri, which will put more than 1,000 workers on the job.
The state’s unemployment rate has been below the national average for 35 straight months, we’re shipping more Missouri-made goods around the world than ever before, and Missouri was just named a top-10 state to do business for the third straight year.
And when anyone attempted to erode the rights that Missouri workers have earned, we stopped them. We will grow our economy by empowering and training workers, not by attacking them.
We’ve come a long way, but there’s much more work to do.
As you celebrate this Labor Day holiday, I encourage you to thank a worker you know who has gone the extra mile to provide for his or her family. Working people built our state and nation. And Missouri’s workforce is unquestionably our state’s most valuable asset.
Enjoy a safe and healthy holiday weekend.
Sincerely,
Governor Jay Nixon
P.S. – Great start to the football season for Mizzou. Go Tigers!
