Kansas City's most prolific anti-crime activist recently noted increasing crime in Kansas City, Missouri.
Accordingly . . .
ANTI-CRIME ACTIVIST ALONZO WASHINGTON IS OFFERING HIS HELP AND INSIGHT INTO A RECENT PLAZA RUCKUS AND INCREASING TENSION IN KC PROPER!!!
Mr. Washington is one of Kansas City's most tireless advocates for cooperation with police and against local crime so his offer and advice are certainly worth considering as local violence and tension seems to be increasing in the final months of the year.

I'm not real sure Mr. Washingtonn is a tireless advocate for much of anything other than himself, but TKC features him endlesly, so that must be working.
What Mr. Washington doesn't understand is that there is an "anti-crime" industry in KCMO and he just isn't able to break into the line to get any of the goodies.
If you add Federal, state, county, city, corporate, and foundation money spent trhough not-for-profits and other "agencies", the number is well over $100 million. Does anyone really know wehre it all goes? Does anyone, including the funders, really care? Is there any coordination with programs that the plice or other law enforcement agencies have implemented? Is there any collaboraiton among all these agencies?
Some of the money is very well and professionally spent. Some of it is wasted on programs that were started many years ago and still address issuess that have long since been replaced by much more pressing needs. Some is spent almost entirely on over-paid executive directors who do little but protect their own turf and shake people down. Some is spent on folks who are trying hard, but bring no real abilities to the game.
But all of it are parts of a status quo which is not only incapable of addressing the violence in the community, but very often seems uninterested in doing so.
$100 million, not including the KCPD budget. Just keep that number in mind the next time you hear someone talk about an "underseved" part of town.
Zo the kids want a fun safe place to hang? There are many of these available. Now these are available to those who know how to act in public. Fighting and tearing stuff up is not acceptable; how would you like it if I did that tho your mama's house? These kids need to know respect. They are welcome on the plaza and other places too, but they are required to act like normal human-beings and not animals with no home training. This is all we are saying.
I thought Mr. Washington was busy helping to unwind that big prostitution ring operating out of Washington High School. I'm still waiting for him to fully break that story.
