TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY VOTER APATHY IS THE KEY TO THE "SUCCESS" OF MAYOR SLY AND THE CITY COUNCIL!!!
There's a common theme recently revealed in all the recent tax and spend schemes of Mayor Sly and the City Council this isn't as awesome as Angelica Bridges and her Show-me State hotness.
Nobody cares.
Mayor Sly's ideas have DOOMED this town with a greater debt load that's killing our bond rating but pushback has been minimal and it's not all about his charisma.
Here's a fact . . .
OVER THE TENURE OF THE LAST TWO CITY COUNCIL AND MAYORAL ADMINISTRATIONS KANSAS CITY HAS SIMPLY GIVEN UP ON VOTING AT THE BALLOT BOX!!!
The trend is dangerous because it has given Mayor and Council carte blanche (i.e. a blank check) to fund their silly ideas with rigged elections.
For example . . . At a recent streetcar meeting to decide mail-in ballots the committee making the decision basically laughed at Kansas City voter turnout. I'm not kidding about this one . . . There was a weak justification about the streetcar deserving "special" consideration and then one member of the panel noted that turnout was just as lousy using mail-in ballots or at the polls and concluded his observation with: "God Bless America." It was an apropos statement and pretty much signaled that ramming the streetcar home wouldn't meet with much pushback. For the most part, this sentiment is correct.
The bright side to this isn't really a good thing.
Kansas City people still vote . . . And they do it with their feet.
Over a generation the people of Kansas City have moved out of this town to take refuge from insider schemes and failed politics. The trend seems to be continuing despite the hope that a toy train will lure back a few suckers. Jackson County has consistently lost population over the years and the only part of Kansas City that seems to be growing is the Northland where people have taken refuge from failed politicos. The same trend is apparent when we're talking about Kansas City Public Schools.
Kansas City's population growth has been minimal while other nearby cities and counties are booming. This trend not only signals that this town might very well be heading the way of Detroit but also that politicos taking advantage of voter apathy are only contributing to Kansas City's downward spiral.
Sadly, the only way to reverse the tend is for more people to vote and start watching elected officials a bit more closely while this town's political elite, journalists reporting from the suburbs and corporate political contributors seem satisfied when it comes to Kansas City voter apathy and the status quo.

It funny how the council cramming a vote on thier fofo line scam. but wont let the people vote clay light rail plan which by the way is better deal for the city. The plan is full line for mass tran not a line run down one street just for tourst.I guess we living the old day of 30 were the mob rules the town.
Tony, you might help increase voter turn-out if you would stop supporting shitty, self-serving politicians. The cancer is the Jackson County Kansas City political status quo.
No, it's not about his charisma, it's about not being labeled a (shock) racist! The fear of that appellation is the reason we have an idiot in the White House and an idiot as Mayor, an idiot as congressman and and idiot as Chief of Police. These people are incompetent and the only reason they're in office is they are BLACK!
The whole of what psses for government in both KCMO and Jackson County is nothing but a swirling mass of insiders, consultants, family and friends, grifters, rent-seekers, swells, ans assorted hangers-on who fight tooth and nail behind closed doors as to how all the money the taxpayers pony up every year is going to be divided up among them.
The residents and taxpayers certainly are not parts of this game, but even Sanders, James, and the rest are just along for the ride, with other folks calling the real shots and getting the serious money.
And the real players don't want and won't support individuals who are serious about public service and public policies, but are more than happy to bankroll anyone who comes along who needs a job, will do as they're told, and distract the public with some silly issues while they are being robbed by the folks behind the curtain.
So why are fewer people voting all the time? Not too tough to answer.

The real political story in this region is the money that the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department is pouring on Trozzolo Communications, but you will not blog about that Tony because you are a jailhouse bitch for more than one Trozzolo execs, including Steve Glorioso.

You hit the nail on the head when you said people vote with their feet. I did it eight years ago and no regrets. 8:14 is right, those who feed at the trough control the city. They have much more at stake than the taxpayer so the taxpayer finds it easier to just move.

What has Troy done besides fire and force retirement on prominate African American leaders while promotion his white friends to higher and higher positions? Please wake up Sly.
Actually, 7:51, given the issues of personal safety, I think the taxpayer has much more at stake. The grifters just have more access to the decision makers.
