TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! TAKE A LOOK AT KANSAS CITY OPPOSITION TO MAYOR SLY'S TAX AND SPEND PLAN!!!
Mayor Sly and sales tax supporters are promising 20k jobs in return for a forever tax and half a billion bucks worth of borrowing.
Surprisingly, The Star is opposed to the tax increase and most residents who aren't on a City Hall or consultant payroll also don't want to be taxed to death.
In this mailer/e-mail blast opponents of the forever sales tax feature an old lady crying to depict Kansas City's broke-ass frustration.
And then a broke-ass Latino dude turning his back on his family reminds us that not even Mayor Sly's acolytes on The Civic Council support this EXPENSIVE TAX AND SPEND PLAN.
It's an effective piece (nullus) that should get people thinking about the consequences of emptying their pocketbook simply to cater to Mayor Sly's huge ego.
DEVELOPING . . .

20,000 jobs? Really? Show the algorithm that came up with that. Its so amazing, the whole world needs to know this.
Vote no on 1 and yes on 2. We need to do the work that 2 pays for. But 1 just provides a slush fund.
The Latino dude pic would be more believable if he had a tire iron he was using on his wife and or kids.
I strive for realism.
no paid for by?
Now it makes sense. So THIS is who has been jerking the Star's and Yael's chain.....
This tax will lose - predict spread of 30%
I'm glad to see some semi-organized opposition to Question 1, but I agree with 6:43. Question 2 is actually smart (for a change).
6:43/8:23- Sales taxes are regressive and impact lower income families more than higher wage earners. Taking more money from lower income wage earners will lead to increased demand for social services and only further stress an already overburdened social services network.
Borrowing the money now may be smart IF you have defined the uses. The looseness of the earmarks, and the fact that it will go toward TIF subsidies (some of which are both not asked for AND which unnecessarily promote further greenfield development) demands that the smart vote is a resounding "NO".
Glad to see the Chamber of Commerce stays consistent. They have supported every tax increase and boondoggle in this city forever.
I love KCMO sales tax. I live in KCMO, but do all my shopping in surrounding communities. No KCMO businesses in my area. KCMO would rather focus on building section 8 housing in these areas.
