The latest message to the Kansas City Catholic Hierarchy from one of the leading victims' rights advocacy groups: "SNAP to Bishop: Stop denying child porn"

Now that Fr. Ratigan has pled guilty to child porn, Bishop Finn should drop his legal maneuver claiming the photos are not child porn.
In late April, without fanfare or public notice, Finn and his lawyers filed a motion saying that the pictures Fr. Ratigan had stored on his computer were not child porn, despite the fact that they included close-up shots of the genitalia of young girls. According to Finn, these pictures did not meet the criteria for “obscenity,” and therefore were not porn.
It defies common sense and common decency for one of Finn’s priests to admit in court that he took child porn photos while Finn is in another court saying they’re not child porn.
Here’s why this is so awful.
First, this desperate and disingenuous move by the bishop rubs even more salt into the already-deep and still-fresh wounds of the families of Fr. Ratigan's victims.
Second, this legal hairsplitting risks overturning or undermining Missouri's child porn law, potentially helping other sex offenders get away with their child sex crimes.
Here is precisely what Finn and lawyers say: “the photographs at issue are not child pornography.” (The actual document is on our website)
And they say “(The legal complaint against Bishop Finn) describes inappropriate or even disturbing photographs of Jane Doe 49. However, this is a distinction between inappropriate photographs and actual ‘child pornography.’” The allegations do not establish that the photographs were ‘child pornography’ or ‘obscenity.’”
We call on Finn to stop making this hurtful claim and withdraw his motion.

It is not unheard of for a pervert priest to be a hetero pervert. we haven't heard of as many yet, but they are out there too. Parents, why do you send your children to priests to learn how love and marriage works?
I wonder how many pervert priests would have plead guilty like Ratigan over the years, if the Catholic Church hadn't hidden them under it's robes.
The Lord and the church hierarchy know that probably thousands of them confessed their crimes to fellow priests and their superiors. The church lied, and covered up and the perverts went on molesting and raping.
The guilty plea might make it easier for the victims, but I'd rather see the pope's buttpuppets who have conducted and apparently are still conducting this coverup charged and found guilty by juries.
Let's have these devils sit in front of the jury deciding with their high paid lawyers whether to take the stand. Most of them won't be able to resist, thinking the jury will be sheep just like their parishioners.
Defendants who don't think the laws apply to them, who think they have done nothing wrong, and who think they are smarter than the jurors make terrible mistakes on the stand. Let the buttpuppets convict themselves.
There was a reason the Philly Archdiocese buttpuppets in charge decided they didn't want to use the penile plethysmograph to diagnose perverts. It works.
That stinking "bishop" is nothing more than the Head Pedophile and he should/must be held further accountable for the actions of these so called priests.
The leadership of the Kansas City Catholic Diocese is an utter and dispicable disgrace to the Catholic Church.
Finn is in so far over his head that daylight can't be seen.
Of course, the pompous lawyers representing the diocese are getting rich. Lawyers love to run up billable hours by filing stupid motions.
As a Catholic, I am ashamed of how this is being handled and notice, the hierarchy is hiding under cloaks of secrecy, saying nothing.
I think the stink of this scandal goes way up the chain of command and is tarnishing some really good, dedicated men on the way.
I live in Kansas and can't do anything but deplore the situation but I hope the Missouri Diocese members are responding by withholding their money. This is the only way to get something done as far as cleaning house.
