Oh that's right. We have to toss millions of tax payer dollars at the airport we just recently renovated next I forgot.

ReplyDeleteThe reason the Airport and Airlines are loosing money is because of the economy. People are not using air travel as much. This isn't the 90's.

41 must be on the take or something since there is absolutely nothing wrong with KCI International. It's one of the easiest airports to get in and out of.

ReplyDeleteThe problem with KCI is, except for being in to boonies, it's way too convenient for passengers. We can't have that.
ReplyDeleteWhat Channel 41 or someone else needs to investigate is how much money KCMO and other jurisdictions have spent on consultant studies to justify what the electeds have already decided to do, mostly build big projects, because it's neat and it's more fun to spend other people's money than it is to actually govern a city. And of course the consultants always give the folks who are paying them exactly the results they want.

Downtown and Plaza hotels.
Renovations at Kemper arena.
And now a streetcar project that costs $100 just to build.
Airlines will add flights when the metro is big enough to fill airplanes and make them profitable. Not when there's a new terminal with gift shops and restaurants.
The folks who do really well with all these grandiose schemes are the engineering companies, planners and consultants,construction companies, bond attorneys, and assorted city hall hangers-on. And once these projects are done, the city pays no attention to them or even spends any attention maintaining them.
Same thing over and over again.
What KSHB REALLY needs to study is how unsafe the airport is for the City employees who work there (did anyone ever investigate the TRUE cause of the electrical outage in Terminal B last fall?) and how much money the City spends each year paying worker's compensation claims and claims for property damage.
