The stats are unofficial but I don't think it's out of line to note that the inordinate number of murders for a town this size continues to be a problem in Kansas City that the political elite refuse to confront.

Police are investigating a double shooting that left one person dead. Officers were called to 30th & Oakley around 3 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found two teens suffering from gunshot wounds.

As far as homicide stats in different cities, some cities like Detroit are a lot worse than KCMO: Detroit has had 160 homicides in 2012 with a population of 700,00--KCMO has had 50 homicides in 2012 with a population of 420,000. But most cities are doing a lot better: DC with a population of 600,000 (plus thousands and thousands of year round inhabitants who are not legally residents) has had 43 homicides in 2012, and NYC with a population of 8 million has had 160 homicides in 2012. God forbid we sink the the level of Detroit--but it could happen; in the past decade, not surprisingly, Detroit lost 200,000 people--in 1950 that city had two million people. Take care. You know the only way anyone in the community would really care is if a white person was the one doing the shooting. Then they would want justice... Folks know who shot your friend. They don't care and now you expect anonymous people on a blog to care. You know the kid, talk to some people and get his shooter brought to justice. You know nobody is going to talk to the police.
