TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! INTERNETS RAGE: "SO A KCPD OFFICER SHOT OUR DOG."

This tale of doggie drama recently made it's way to TKC along with an ask to share . . .

Take a look and judge for yourself . . .

So a KCPD officer shot our dog this morning.

"At about seven AM our house alarm went off. The homeowner was called. He called the person watching our house at the time, she reported that there was no break in that she knew of and started to check the doors and windows. The homeowner then called the alarm company and said that it was a false alarm. The cops arrived on the scene almost immediately. The dog was outside and the person at the house was on the other side of the house checking the basement door. Rectangle (our dog) ran toward the policemen on our porch. Possibly barking (noone has seen a police report. One of the officers pulled his gun and fired at him point blank. FOUR TIMES. Luckily, he was only shot twice and will hopefully recover after surgery.

The homeowner talked to the Police Sergeant and he confirmed that they knew it was a false alarm. The officers on the scene left before anyone who lives there arrived. The Sergeant said that this behavior was protocol. My roomate is left with a costly vet bill and no explanation for what happened."

Check a Tumblr post that tells the same tale but also provides more adorable photos of a hurt doggie that hopefully will get better.

Expect A GREAT DEAL OF KANSAS CITY DOGGIE LOVER RAGE over this story . . . Remember you saw it FIRST on TKC!!!

Natch.

I have recently been approached by a State Department contractor to go to Haiti to conduct small arms training for Hatian police. I have never used an illegal drug, and have never been arrested. I am the type of guy who "always plays by the rules".
That being said; I fear the police breaking down my door, destroying my property, or harming my family, more than I fear criminals and gangs.
Coming from me; that is a sad statement about the police in America...

  4. Uhhhh, was the porch fenced in? Was the dog on a leash? Was the officer blinded by a wagging tail that he couldn't focus enough to kill shot the dog? Was the officer a cat lover? Would him being a cat lover a) be in the police report? b) make him by default a P#ssy? Was Rectangle named Rectangle because he was morbidly obese? Did the officer just feel sorry for this morbidly obese "Rectangle" with legs and sympathy shoot him, but couldn't focus because he was crying about how sad the situation was? I'm going to assume that it was irresponsible pet ownership because the dog was on a porch and was able to run up on police. It's not like it was in a fenced in yard with beware of dog signs.

  5. KCPD always shoots the dog(s). It's a game for them (unless it's one of THEIR dogs, then it's a crime).
They shoot dogs on leash, dogs in fenced yards, even seen them shoot a puppy inside a small kennel inside a house.
One of the many fine points of KCPD.

    1. Nope because they shoot them before they get hurt. Now how many unarmed people were killed by dogs last year? Thats why the US supreme court has established the "totality of circumstance" rule. Did the officer feel they were in fear of their life or IMMEDIATE danger to the public? No matter what kind of rebuttal you come back with, you cannot know what the officer was thinking and what he/she felt.

I know for a fact that if a city worker has to go to a home with an aggressive dog they will call animal control. Hell even cops will call animal control if need be. But when faced with an immediate threat sometimes there is no time to call and wait an hour for animal control. Put that in your pipe and smoke it ya bed wetting liberal hippy.

    4. First off, not a liberal or a hippy. Second, below is a whole slew of pants-wetting cop-shoots-dog stories just from one website, which took me all of one minute to find, and none of them I would consider to be an 'immediate threat' situation. And finally, why is it that cops don't seem to have any problem using their pepper spray and tasers on humans, but when it comes to dogs, they immediately resort to deadly force?

Somehow it took cops 10 bullets to put down an 8 month old pit bull, who was posing no threat, the cops simply wet their pants at the very sight of it. But procedures were followed, and I'm sure the officers will not be reprimanded. At most, they will probably receive a paid vacation. You know, standard operating procedure.

    7. No, I don't have it out for cops. I do, however, have a problem with this sick trend of cops immediately resorting to deadly force at the very sight of a dog. In many of the cases I posted above, the cops were called for non-hostile situations. See the first link I posted (http://reason.com/blog/2012/02/28/cop-shoots-dog-three-stories-to-wreck-an), someone called the cops about an ONLINE SCAM, told them she was not at home, but the cops came anyway, jumped her fence, and shot her dog. UNACCEPTABLE. This happens way too often, and the response from the police department is ALWAYS that 'procedures were followed, no wrongdoing took place'. Meanwhile, these families have lost a very dear member, and the cops just seem so cold and uncaring about what they have done.

    8. Chris Mallory6/22/12, 11:38 AM

I do have it out for cops. There are NO good cops. Good cops are hounded off the force. Cops routinely break the law. Cops routinely abuse citizens. Cops are more dangerous to the average person than any criminal. It is time cops remember who they work for. It is time cops had their powers and authority cut back drastically. It is time cops returned to being "peace officers" instead of "law enforcers". Since you are a badge fluffer, I really doubt you know what the difference between the two is.

So spare me the line about how you put your life on the line every day so we don't have to, because there are plenty of people out there who put their life on the line every day to earn a paycheck, and it doesn't involve terrorizing citizens and killing dogs. And I might add that those people probably earn a lot smaller paycheck than you FOP unionized thugs. I'm not saying that no dog deserves to be put down, or that no dog poses a threat, but in all of the cases I linked to earlier (http://www.tonyskansascity.com/2012/06/tkc-breaking-news-internets-rage-so.html?showComment=1340378274078&m=1#c8742486857128657272) they did NOT. Delete
    5. Nope I wouldn't gun down a dog unless it was attacking me just like a person. I don't expect people to thank me when I go look for their lost kid and I find him, or when I take the husband to jail after turning his wife's face into a bloody pulp or when I take time away from my family to give yours comfort. I don't expect you to be there when my heart breaks because I have to tell a child and his mother that Dad won't be home tonight because a drunk killed him. No I do t expect a thank you. What I do expect is respect and some understanding. It could be you calling for me to help in your darkest hour. I know you won't understand this and will laugh and mock my brothers and sisters in which the way we provide that safety to you and your loved ones. That's okay because at the end of the day when your coming home from work, I'm putting on the uniform and I will serve and protect you. I will be respectful and understanding. Just remember that. I know you want to look at top 10 lists on the Internet that people have put together just to prove my job isn't dangerous. But every time I pull a car over or go to a party armed call, or I am in a fight, your list means nothing as do your words.

    6. Awwww, way to tug on our heartstrings Officer Friendly. You mention us not thanking you when you 'serve and protect' us, meanwhile, 4 million Americans are arrested each year for victimless crimes, and over 80% of our prison population (which is by far the largest in the world) are also there for victimless crimes.

And I do respect cops, when confronted by them, because they have a monopoly on the use of force, particularly the use of deadly force. I am helpless to resist against cops, good ones or bad, so unless I want a bullet in the head or a truncheon upside the skull, I will smile politely and say 'thank you, officer, for writing me that ticket'.

But then again, what am I talking about? Pretty soon you guys will have murderdrones patrolling our local skies to do all your dirty work for you. It'll be just like a video game! Yay!

      Delete
    7. And furthermore, I would encourage you to Google 'wrong door raids'. Time and again, cops are too fucking stupid to double-check the address before they kick in the door to serve a drug warrant (victimless crime!). They shoot the dog, terrorize the family, often leading to PTSD-like after effects, and the officers never face any retribution, not even an apology for the damage they have done. But I suppose we should thank you for that too, Officer? Thank you for serving and protecting us!

And if you are referring to my murderdrone comment, I am not being paranoid. Drones are already being used inside this country by law enforcement, and their use will continue to grow. Again, it is well documented.

    10. Hahaha... "To protect and to Serve" is the biggest lie ever repeated!
Cases have ended up before the courts, when a cop could have protected a person, and didn't. The courts ALWAYS find: "the police are under no obligation to protect the people."
      The most famous case is:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia
And there are a hundred more just like it.
As for me, I have a concealed firearm permit, and most concealed carry permit holders will agree that cops are nothing more than armed tax collectors (speeding tickets, seatbelt violations, etc), and armed report takers. When a real crime does occur, the police show up, make the chalk outlines, and write the reports. Once in a Blue Moon a cop will stumble across a crime in progress. The overwhelming trend among cops these days is to shout "Officer Safety" and stand back at a considerable distance as the victims are mauled. (Columbine comes to mind)
What concerns most Americans is the Militarization of the police.
Some time back in the 90's police officers quit calling themselves "Police Officer" or "Peace Officers". Police Officers and Peace Officers were members of the communities in which they worked. Their job was to protect the rights of the citizens by enforcing laws where there was a harmed party, or harmed property. They were the good guys, you could count on them to exercize sound judgement and de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
Suddenly our police began wearing paramilitary uniforms and became "Law Enforcement Officers". A Law Enforcement Officer will enforce any law, no matter how egregious, ridiculous, or inapplicable.
At the same time "We the People" became relegated from Citizens, to mere civilians. Citizens have God Given Rights, and ownership of their country. Civilians are members of the indigenous population of a country which is under military occupation.
You "LEO's" need to get it through your heads, that we are not the enemy. You run around shooting peoples dogs, tasing elementary school children, and elderly grand mothers, and shooting harmless mentally ill, or infirm people, because you view yourselves as an occupying army, not a member of a community.
If you dress a cop up like a soldier, give him military weapons, and paramilitary training, this is the predictable result...

  29. Sounds to me like a cop who can't make an educated decision based on a circumstance. I carry a knife and it's been well suited for situations that I've encounted that don't involve someone pointing a gun at my face. I feel as if you can't beat up a dog with the civil weapons you're allowed by law to carry without permit, then maybe you should focus more on why you're such a pussy instead f trying to find justification to shoot an animal. Get a life, maybe if you went to more than a year of training or even had a college degree you'd make better decisions. It's pretty sad when you're a heartless bastard who's only job is to protect people, even if that means putting yourself in harms way...don't blame us because you took on a task you're obviously incapable of handling like a responsible intelligent human being.

  30. Yea, pepper spray (which has no IMMEDIATE effect) or use your taser which gives you one shot with probes that spread 6 inches every foot in distance to hit a charging dog that is 2 1/2 ft tall and a foot wide. Both probes have to make contact for ANY effect and you'd have to wait until the dog was about 2 ft from you to have a chance of that happening IF you were to have a shot at the dogs side. Good luck with that...love Monday morning quarterbacks. Tell ya what, buy some pepper spray, a taser and a gun then I'll throw you in the back yard with my Doberman. If you're so scared of dogs maybe you shouldn't be a police officer.

If your Doberman wanted to attack me, because you've probably trained him that way....I'd fucking stab him in the knock after he bit me...at least then when you take me to court for killing your dog is have legitimate proof that I was actually defending myself.

Just because you're paid to protect and serve doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. If I randomly shy a dog who was on an unfenced porch or in a neighbors yard, you can bet the cops wouldn't treat it the same way.

But feel free to make up excuses on why this was ok, because I don't own a dog, but I do believe that if you want to protect the "law" you can't treat people differently because they're people and you're a cop.

The legislature passes the laws everyone seems to complain about including those "victimless crimes". Usually because of public outcry over a particuliar incident.

The police take an oath to enforce those laws. They don't make up their own.

You are then found innocent or guilty by a judge or jury.

Next time you want to complain about a law to a cop remember it was your elected official that enacted that law and asked the cops to enforce it.

No one seems to like the police until they are calling 911.

    1. Derp. Most of those laws have been around long before I was old enough to elect the piece of shit legislators who voted those bills into law. It is pretty fucking easy to get a law passed, and damn near impossible to get them repealed. It is why government only grows, and never shrinks. Also, if a law is unjust, why do the cops enforce them? If cops would show a little backbone and not enforce stupid laws, it would pretty much nullify the law. Try again, asshole.

    2. Douchebag, you don't choose which laws to enforce and which ones not to. I understand that you don't like drug laws because you want to sit around and do drugs all day but in this country, drugs are still illegal. If you don't like it, move.

  53. This kind of crap has been going on for a *long* time, kiddies. It's just (finally)(rightfully) getting more publicized now, thanks to the web. Think back to the Waco debacle on 1993. The *first* thing the brave peacekeeper warriors did - after getting their stupid asses shot off by the Mt. Carmel folks - was to shoot a mama dog *and her puppies*.......never mind the fact they were all penned up at the time. Look it up. So 'Officer Safety' can kiss my ass.

As for the brave cops who do this crap, and the toadying lickspittles who defend them so pathetically here and elsewhere: next time you get sad and whiny and ronery, wondering why you're getting divorced yet again, please do us all a favor and eat that gun, you scum.

  60. 5:30 is right.

When a reporter try to get the Police Chief to answer a simple question and he takes offense then tweets about it.

Now if the public questions the shooting of a dog the cops get all pissed off since the cops can do no wrong. Remember the owner came home to a wounded dog, you bet they want an explanation. KCPD stinks at serving the public their attitude towards an inquiring public demonstrates this. Their attitude is no one in the public should question what they do. Well they are wrong. We the Taxpaying Public pay their salary. We have a right for an explanation and answers.

  61. Poor dog. I wonder what it did to deserve being shot?

  62. I wasn't there, so I don't know what happened. Neither were any of you retards so shut it. This is just one side of the story. Not saying it's right or wrong. But we weren't there so who is to judge except the ignorant?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Any IDIOT can tell if the dog is actually intending to bite or not. Further, if the dog was "challenging" the cops, which he probably was, then he was doing his job. Yet another reason to DISTRUST THE COPS IN THIS TOWN.

Oh golly, poor dog. The idiot generation, that thinks Bambi is a documentary, has spoken.

  70. 1:14,

So I suppose the infamous Hollywood bank robbery shootout would have ended much differently if the cops had just tried to reason with the fellas shooting at them with AK-47's? Police have upgraded their weapons in order to match what they're up against. That incident was a prime example. Prior to that, LAPD didn't carry patrol rifles (only SWAT) and they were definitely outgunned. Guess what, now they do. Its all about being able to defend against an enemy--that being an armed violent criminal, not everyday folk.

Everyone chill. A dog was shot. We don't know all the circumstances involved, only one side of the story as was mentioned earlier. If you'll notice most of the comments are pure speculation.

And before the next douche says something to the effect of "asshole cop" in response to this--I'm not one. Just someone who has the ability to think with a clear head and not get all emotional or riled up in a media frenzy. I'm sure most of you bashing the cops in this whole ordeal think Trayvon was completely innocent of any wrongdoing too.

    ReplyDelete
  71. So go to Haiti. I'm sure your fear priorities will correct themselves by the time you have returned.

    And now...

"Some time back in the 90's police officers quit calling themselves "Police Officer" or "Peace Officers". Police Officers and Peace Officers were members of the communities in which they worked. Their job was to protect the rights of the citizens by enforcing laws where there was a harmed party, or harmed property."

Total logical disconnect and false, to boot. Apparently some of you idiots think The Andy Griffith Show is a SOP manual.
