Check the latest presser from Kansas City Transit Activist Clay Chastain . . .
KEEP IN MIND THAT CLAY CHASTAIN HAS GARNERED FAR MORE APPROVAL (AND SIGNATURES) FROM KANSAS CITY VOTERS REGARDING LOCAL TRANSIT THAN BOTH THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL DUDE RUSS JOHNSON!!!
Check it:
Kansas City's transit dream team:
Kansas City's transit dream team would combine Mike Sanders' suburban commuter rail plan with Clay Chastain's city-wide light rail-based transit plan, and not the City's streetcar...WITHOUT DESIRE...plan.
Alas though, the City...which wants to kill Chastain's plan (endorsed by nearly 4,000 voters) and pretend it doesn't exist...is scheming to hitch their transit wagon to Sanders by avoiding a city-wide vote!
"Just the facts Maam:"
Here are some facts Sanders' educational program on transit could be providing the public if it weren't for the inconvenient truth that the program is being administered by self-serving insider groups... i.e., MARC and the RTA... who support the City's streetcar...without desire...plan.
#1. As in Chastain's plan, a larger capacity, faster moving, in its own right-of-way city light rail train is superior as the city's main transit trunk line to smaller, slower moving, running on the street with traffic...streetcars.
* Note, Streetcars are used as feeders to the larger light rail system, and one will never ride a streetcar up to the airport, or the northland where half the city's population resides.
#2. As in Chastain's plan, suburban commuter trains...with their high passenger capacity...are used to feed into a main city light rail train system...and its similar high passenger capacity...and then light rail quickly connects those passengers to numerous major city-wide destinations.
* Note, If i live in Lee's Summit, Grandview, Blue Springs, or Independence i am much more likely to use...and thus vote for...a regional commuter rail system if it can connect me to a city light rail train system that can then take me to the airport, northland job centers, downtown attractions, Union Station, Westport, the Plaza, UMKC, south Kansas City, etc. than if that same commuter train merely connects me to a 2.2 mile downtown streetcar system.
#3. As in Chastain's plan, using a streetcar line to feed the light rail spine...Chastain's streetcar line would operate through the eastside from the Kansas City Zoo to Union Station...is the prudent way to utilize streetcars in a modern transit system.
* Note, Mayor James streetcar...without desire...plan does nothing to directly benefit the northland, south Kansas City, or the troubled eastside; nor is it the major response the city needs to hook up with Sanders' plan to build a long overdue regional transit system...albeit on the Missouri side only.
Mayor James put all three transit proposals on the November 2012 ballot and let CITY-WIDE voters decide.

Totally disagree.
ReplyDeleteThis is phase one. Let's finally get started on this rather than have a big comprehensive plan we never implement.
ReplyDeleteI've been dreaming for something like this that goes from Waldo/Brookside to the airport. I love it here, but my fucking relatives are constantly wanting me to drive to the airport and pick them up and I HATE it. It takes forever to get up there from Brookside and it's a big pain in the ass.
ReplyDeleteYAY, Clay! Go...
ReplyDeleteOur dream for Clay Chastain:
ReplyDeleteThat he should go away and leave Kansas City alone, forever and ever, amen.
Please, if there is a God.
I'm all for mass transit, personally, but it will never happen with or because of this guy.
What an ego.
Clay is right. Streetcars would work best as feeders to a spine (or two spines) of light rail which provides a backbone for the network and links major centers.
ReplyDelete@6/7/12 12:18PM There is NO God. Now, it just seems it's hopeful wishing and we know where that's gotten us. We have Mayor Sly Turd in office. Hoping/wishing hasn't got us anywhere! I actually like Clay Chastain. I hope he prevails this time.
ReplyDeleteThey should pass a law that states if you don't live here you can't put things on the ballot. If he is so concerned with Kansas City, then move here. All he cares about is getting his construction buddies a contract to build it.
ReplyDeleteAnd how much of a plan does Clay have to fund any of his dreams?
ReplyDeleteOh, that's what I thought.
I like Clay. I like the cut of his jib!
ReplyDeleteClay, do everyone a favor, let it go. You're in West Virginia and we're here. Let it go.
ReplyDeleteBoy, this is getting scary. Good ole Shitstain is beginning to sound good, compared to that ape in the Mayor's office. What's to become of us all??
ReplyDeleteClay Chastain = Ineffectual (but always nagging) Asswipe
ReplyDeleteCan't we move the plan so I can get a stop by MY house and not Brookside/Waldo? Who the hell wants to go THERE?
ReplyDeleteTransit system? wtf people, we need a KC exit system so people can get the fuck out of this ridiculous town. And the city council should be the ones who pay out of pocket for a system such as that.
ReplyDeleteYour first goal/step has to be successful, affordable, and achievable. That rules out the Jackson County and Chastain plans. Not saying we should not move forward with either...just not a measurable or timely goal. We have enough plans...time to build something and see if it works.
ReplyDeleteClay Shitstain needs to STFU and go away now!
