Thanks to a TKC TIPSTER who sent information about the line of succession for Kansas City's Ad Hoc Group Against Crime late last night. We learned of the valuable info and then checked it out with a TRUSTED AND KICK-ASS SOURCE who confirmed news of a new Ad Hoc leader.

Certainly, Mr. Watson has achieved some notable success but his leadership has yet to be proven to the vast majority of Kansas City residents.
Moreover, the decision to forgo more connected and seasoned leadership is largely regarded by insiders as a move from the Ad Hoc Board Of Directors to hold on to their influence rather than promote the best interests of the important Kansas City institution. Real Talk: Mr. Watson will have to overcome the notion that he was selected for the Ad Hoc leadership role because he can be easily controlled by the board.
Obviously, we hope Mr. Watson is up to the task of continuing the work of Kansas City anti-violence stalwart Alvin Brooks.

Is this a paid position? Does the board get paid? Where does that $$$ come from? What is the job of this group?
Sounds to me like a scam deal where a few fat cats get $$$ from the city to do nothing.

Does he have any eal idea how utterly irrelevant this group is to much of anything? Maybe the idea is that now young people will become more interested in vigils now that an 80 year-old ex-cop is no longer the man.

ad Hoc has been a gravy train for Brooks for decdades and the mooney has come from clueless white folks, cowardly elected folks, and clueless cowardly folks in the business community.
This new guy will be just a front man and the money will continue to line the same pockets.
When will the funders of this farce finally say no and move on to actually helping folks who are actually trying to DO something about the violence? People who support the status quo are as much a part of the problem as the thugs who terrorize the east side.
Man, Mike... I expected better. Oh, well.

Watson has done nothing, and he's already accomplished much more than Alvin Brooks.
I wish Mr. Watson the best of luck, but no one who played basketball for the "Roos" can be considered a "legend."

His selection was a total joke. Al Brooks was looking for someone who will allow him to continue to pull the strings. Thats why Jermaine Reed is Board Chairman. The entire organization is unorganized and hurting the community

Instead of candle light vigils they will be serving fried chicken and watermelon at all future events.
If you know anything about what Watson has done in the community since his overeas career ended, you would be slow to say its a 'poor choice'. Ad Hoc has been the most visible organization in KC and Mr. Brooks has done all he can do. The board, in my opinion, made a great choice to help lead the fight against crime in KC and create new avenues for crime prevention and programming that are greatly needed! Go Mr. Watson, I wish you nothing but blessings and thank you for caring enough about our city to lead the way.
While a good ball player, UMKC basketball is still irrelevant. I am sure he could bring that same level of work to ADHOC... Keep an irrelevant group irrelevant.
The notion that ad Hoc has been the most visible organization in the community just goes to show how pathetic what passes for leadership and organization in the black community has become. Being visible isn't the same as being representative, effective, or accomplishing anything.
Brooks is visible so he can shake down folks for bucks and nothing more. And Reed being on the board AND in a council position is a terrible conflict of interest.
Instead of continuing to make believe, why don't more folks help develop relationships in the neighborhoods, help residents understand how they can pro-actively play roles in their own safety, and work with the police?
Ad Hoc is a tired embarrassing joke.

I think the fried chicken and watermelon is an excellent idea. The candlelight vigil thing was a waste of time.
This group could disband and no one would notice the difference.
Alvin would look great in a bow tie.
Dissolve the group. The City would be safer that way. Alvin Brooks has done little in this community. THANK GOD for aging! We made it through the roughest part.

And there's still the issue of Brooks being a Kansas City Police Commission... it's still a conflict of interest any way you slice it.
They need to stop wasting city money on Adhoc, Watson is a joke he hasn't done ANYTHING in the community. Mu$t be the MONEY! The should have asked Alonzo!
Give the youngun a chance to see what he can do. I don't believe that he will be a puppet in no way. Its time for a change of the gaurd and Mike has the opportunity to make the much needed change within Ad Hoc. Good Luck young man!!
