SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY CORPORATE WELFARE FOR LOCKTON TOO!!!

Earlier this year we covered a big press party for Lockton announcing that they were staying on The Plaza.
Turns out Kansas City was pretty much paying for the celebration . . . Check this from The KC Biz Journal . . .
Lockton’s Plaza lease extension gets Kansas City aid after all
"Lockton Cos. will get city-level public assistance to remain on the Country Club Plaza after all. An ordinance scheduled to go before the Kansas City Planning, Zoning & Economic Development Committee on Wednesday calls for the city to issue $13 million in Chapter 100 bonds to support the insurance brokerage’s decision to extend its lease on the Plaza."
The sad reality is that the biz poaching war is getting exceptionally tragic when this town has to offer incentives to keep companies on the Plaza. On the bright side, if local government is so desperate to keep people within the city limits . . . It's just a matter of time until they start cutting checks to residents. Or not.

F'in insanity.
And you'll hear NO bitching from all the ignorant racists who post here about crime. While they're wasting their time worrying about the 1% black thugs, the mostly white well-connected 1% "gangstas" are soaking everybody with their corporate welfare schemes.
OH, OH, let's do something about those black teenagers congregating on the Plaza.....but now, be a nice boy, bow down and empty your pockets for the nice white businessman.
Hey, 3:06- Black folk voted or these incentives, too.
Um, I believe the Mayor of the City that is giving away the incentives is black.
Seems to me this isn't about race, it's about class.
Here's the test- do the value of incentives given away by the City disproportionately go to businesses owned by a group of people having particular characteristics?
Actually, receipt of public incentives often also carries certain strings, such as DBE goals, prevailing wage requirements, and other public policy directives.
So the incentives benefit not just the "white" recipients, but also businesses owned by women and minorities and those that hire unions.
Oh fuck you NIGGER loving sons-a-bitches! While the NIGGERS are out robbing, raping and stealing, these "white folks" are working, building businesses and making the world go 'round BEFORE the NIGGERS ruin everything.
I don't care if the only other candidate running for Mayor is Mickey Mouse, I WILL NOT vote for Sly again.
The Kanders lied to us over Sly.
No one from Lockton is gonna murder or rape you grandmother you dumb fucks.
If Sarah Gillooly is elected this stuff will stop! Vote for SarahG!

They work in the business of insurance, so they will do worse things to your grandmother and make you watch.
TKC makes it seem like a $13 million handout, which it's not. They will pay 50% of property tax for a set number of years (usually ten) at which time they will revert back to paying 100%. Not sure what the property tax assessment is on $13 million of improvements, but repeat, it's not $13 million handout by any stretch of imagination.
340 if that characteristic is success then yes.... 18th and vine, citadel, cleavers car wash.......... It's not for lack of effort that it looks 1 sided
Funk wins.
6:10pm It is handout of 50% of the taxes which would be due for ten years. It will have a direct negative impact on each taxing jurisdiction to the same extent.
I predict someone will go to jail for these pay-to-play deals before Sly's term is up.
3:59 comment, if this keeps up, you're going to be flat broke, paying more taxes, receiving less services, AND STILL worrying about all the criminals.
Why is it that increasingly NO business wants to stay/relocate to KC unless they can skip out on paying their regular taxes? Because they've been TAUGHT to ask for a handout!!! Sounds like those people you're always whining about!! Strange how you feel somehow more comfortable getting robbed by a man in a suit!! And after he robs you, he smiles and drives away in a Benz, and you actually wave and say "see you next time."
The taxpayers robbed again.
Go to city hall tell them you are moving to Kansas and see what you get..........nothing is what you will get.
Big Business wins little man has to pay and pay and pay.
Just two months ago, the Mayor tried to do the same thing with firm Helix. It was stopped by the other taxing jurisdictions.
At some point Kansas City must be seen as an attractive location for business, otherwise these payments will bankrupt the town.
This was what the previous Mayor was trying to prevent, but the citizens couldn't get through the math.
Part of the reason we see these handouts is because KCMO is simply not a competetive place to do business with its high taxes, inept government and high crime. The problem with the subsidies is the distortion to the marketplace. The other problem is the corruption it will inevitably bring.
