TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! IF MAYOR SLY DOESN'T ANSWER FOR HIS SON'S ANTICS THEN HE HAS LOST ALL CREDIBILITY ON KANSAS CITY CRIME!!!

It's time for Mayor Sly James to show some leadership when it comes to Kansas City violence and crime and end his recent silence on the subject of his son Kyle's antics.

Kansas City has paid an unfortunate price for Mayor Sly's general lack of interest or attention to crime in this cowtown.

Remember that during his recent State of The City Address Mayor Sly didn't even mention Kansas City's horrific murder rate.

While the Mayor is foolishly playing with the notion of a Downtown Toy Train or working on a scheme to take on more debt to satisfy this town's developers and elites . . . Kansas City craves the kind of leadership and forthright attitude that Sly James promised during his campaign.

TKC had a brief meeting with Mayor Sly James at Westport Coffehouse back before his campaign really got rolling. I asked Sly James about Kansas City homicides and potential solutions that he had in mind. He noted a lot of the same trite ideas that most politicos tout and then he said something noteworthy . . . The soon to be Mayor of Kansas City said (and I'm paraphrasing) that if he was elected, the accomplishment MIGHT inspire folks in the urban core to see that they do, in fact, have a stake in this city given that someone from humble beginnings on Montgall would have made it all the way to the Mayor's office.

I'm gonna fight my instincts and refrain from making an insight about the ability of Sly James to inspire his own family DESPITE the fact everybody else in this town is saying as much.

INSTEAD . . .

WITH A DOZEN MORE KANSAS CITY MURDERS THIS YEAR THAN LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME AND HIS SON SEEMINGLY RUNNING OUT OF CONTROL ON LOCAL STREETS WITH LITTLE COMMENT FROM HIS OFFICE . . . MAYOR SLY'S LEADERSHIP HAS BEEN LESS THAN INSPIRING WHEN IT COMES TO KANSAS CITY VIOLENCE!!!

Worse . . .

GIVEN THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS . . . MAYOR SLY'S SILENCE ON THE SUBJECT OF HIS SON'S ANTICS IS SHAMEFUL!!!

To wit . . .

TKC ALONG WITH A FEW KICK-ASS TIPSTERS AND READERS ARE DEMANDING THAT MAYOR SLY MAKE A SERIOUS EFFORT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS SON'S ANTICS THAT HAVE, LIKE IT OR NOT, IMPACTED HIS CREDIBILITY ON LOCAL VIOLENT CRIME!!!

Maybe a KCPT or Chris Hernandez interview in the company of Kyle could address the situation  . . . Since they're both fans of music . . . It might be cool to see them on stage together.

Whatever.

The point here is that Mayor Sly can't keep this quiet and pretend it's not a problem any more . . . His credibility is basically shot on KC violent crime because of this hot mess.

AND LIKE IT OR NOT THE SUBJECT OF CURBING KANSAS CITY VIOLENT CRIME AND OUR HOMICIDE RATE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MAYOR SLY'S POLITICAL CAREER OR ANY EMBARRASSMENT HE MIGHT FACE BY ADDRESSING HIS SON'S ANTICS!!!

It's time for Mayor Sly to offer the kind of leadership he promised instead of playing politics.

  6. KCPT has never shown any interest in public safety in KCMO and in fact consciously avoids the topic. And any TV interview will last about 2 minutes and be remembered for about the same amount of time.
Kyle James may be an interesting sidelight, but his behavior is not really the issue.
The issue is who will provide the leadership from the official side of the policing equation, and Chief Forte' and Jean Peters-Baker are at least making a start.
And who will provide the leadership to help change the culture on the east side to where just randomly killing people is not acceptable, recruit, train, and support the ever-decreasing number of residents there so that they can help play a role in the safety of their own neighborhoods and families, and help responsible folks understand that everyone is much better off when the community cooperates with the police.
And in the latter category, there is deathly silence. The people who push themselves to the head of the line and make believe they are the leaders of the black community are way too busy shaking down corporations and government, finding bucks and jobs for their families and friends, and standing in the way of young folks who could provide real public leadership if given a chance.
And until those folks are moved out of the way and ignored as they should be, nothing much is going to happen.
So we'll continued to be entertained by Kyle's antics until he runs into some folks who ain't playin'. And there are alot of them around.

People ... come on now, be honest ... maybe it's not really his fault at all ... looking at Kyle James smirk, doesn't question comes to mind:

Doesn't his face male you just WANT to punch in in the face?

  12. Sly doesn't care about crime or raising taxes. When he fails, he'll leave KC. Go over to Johnson county, make benjamins as a lawyer.

He will lose nothing by not being reelected and failing to address his out of control son.

All of us will be stuck with the same old problems.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Here's reallity: Sly is done as mayor after this term. Between his brother and his son, he has no chance of reelection. Second, the toy train will get built, line the pockets of a ton of city council friends, and the people of this city will ALL have to pay for it after the taxing district is too small to pay for the up keep. You dumbasses can argue, but you know I'm right....

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sly will not seek a second term. All those young, ambitious staff members have hooked their wagons to the wrong horse.

  15. That is one STUPID kid! The bloke is too dumb to even figure out he's got to stay in Slydog's jurisdiction. KCKPD has vast experience handling real gangsters, this wannabe is just an irritation to them. He's lucky, given his attitude, he didn't get booked via the ER.

  16. Kyle James' kid, unarmed, doesn't look like much of a serious threat unless it is a "Knock Out King" situation.

His activities, are of interest only because of his father, as they should be. There are kids out there causing low level mayhem in the streets, trying to prove they are are tough and aquire some "Steet Cred" all over this city and all over the nation.

If the violence escalates by way of Kyle's efforts, the outcome will be death or a crippling injury by way of those same efforts.

Kyle's disease is symptomatic of the affliction that runs rampant in the African American community with respect to young African American males.

The only identity that can be aquired without much effort (Albeit much danger.) is the "Thug" identity.

Traditional tools that bring that status they so desperately desire, requires hard work by way of education, perseverance and a willingness to subordinate and accept correction by way of experience.

African American males are in no way encouraged into the mainstream effort and in fact are encouraged by the Main Stream Media, Hollywood, thier parents, peers and so called "Black Leaders" to assume the persona of an entitled, dangerous, uneducated, violent thug, whose behaviour, no mater how aberrant, is excused by the the American Zeitgeist.

Violence is the expected, accepted tool of a bankrupt African American 50 year liberal shibboleth that demeans and destroys those same African Americans while forcing an ever greater crucible of taxes, entitlements, death and expectations of same for the foreseeable future.

Kyle James is a small pimple on the monstrous ass of tdestruction that is t he African American penchant for violence that is destroying out cities and this nation.

  23. Who cares about Kylie, he's over 18 he can do what he wants. I think the only question we should be asking is Did Mayor Sly ever Spank his son or Give him Time outs...I think Time outs is all he got.

    ReplyDelete
  24. No punishment at all...in fact probably even a blind eye. Everyone from Rockhurst, Pembroke and SM East knows kyle would sell coke, x, and weed out of his mommy and daddys house off 39th st, next to that park. Mom would even answer the door and tell us what room was kyles. Did mom know what was going on? I would say yes considering the amount of blunt smoke in kyles room.

  25. He needs to cut his son off. Then maybe he will get a job and will not be out so late.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Where does Kyle live? Where does he get his money? If he lives at home & is given an allowance, then he isn't a grown man, & his parents ARE responsible for his behavior. My youngest son is 25 & I don't think of him as a 'grown man'. But then, I consider gray hair to be the sure sign of adulthood.

  27. Haha! Fuckin' Yellow Boy!!!

Didn't he shoot that guy outside of Retro?

  28. He's over 18, Byron. Legally he's a grown man.

You of all people know what it's like to have a family that's out of control.

  29. Maybe he should buy some Facebook stock while it's cheap. So he can afford his own bail.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There are so many problems in this city right now.... You know, Saturday night I got robbed at gunpoint at the corner of Monroe and E. 6th Street.

    "This is a motherfuckin' robbery."

Well, I had no money. So he took my bicycle.

I am poor but I keep trying to make things better. I try to pick up the litter that constantly fills my street. I encourage the families around me to garden and enjoy the sunshine.

Things are getting tougher. Everybody in line at the grocery store seems to be buying food with an EBT card. Like, 80% of the grocery store business seems to be food-stamp related.

And they want to spend $100,000,000 on a 2.2 mile train track? I am so sad. I mean, I am really saddened by the madness of it.

Anyway. Sly's son is one year older than Jermaine Reed. That makes him an adult.

Fuck it. We have gone over the edge and are falling into a black abyss of Fail. More taxes, more pet projects, more anger and violence and hopelessness.

    More disconnect.

Anyway, be safe out there. Shit is real fucked up right now.

  39. Plans are in the works to Recall this Mayor due to a vote of No Confidence by the citians of Kansas City. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Raising taxes by one Billion dollars (with a B) to cover services that should be paid for out of the already overreaching taxes is for one reason only... corruption, corruption, corruption. Sly is to blame for his son's actions... he raised him... or did he? If he wasn't there for his son, why do you think he will be there for the citizens of this city. He is just another money grabbing political thug.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 12:29: You have a good point that Kyle's activities are news because he is the mayor's son. No problem there--but when people start advocating the mayor's recall because of Kyle (as 3:01 did), well, that's a stretch.

And 1:14, do you suppose the mayor's opponent(s) won't get any funds from legal firms?

I realize that many of the people who post here are probably not Mensa material, but c'mon, can't y'all think just a second or so before hitting "publish?"

  41. I'm confused. The media, Tony, and probably 99% of people who post on this Blog went after Funkhouser on a DAILY basis for the benign antics of his wife. They were vicious, vial, disrespectul, rude, even at public events. They couldn't wait to get rid of the Funk when his main priority was to hold this city accountable for its fiscal responsibility. Funkhouser for forced to respond to behavior of his wife.

How is this any different. What's good for one is good the other. The Mayor should be held accountable for his son. His son is a a common thug, he's has no respect for authority, he has no respect for others. This is how the First Family of Kansas City acts? These people respresent Kansas City, and I for one am embarrassed by our Mayor, his brother and his sons.

To make matters worse, this Mayor wants to raise taxes by a frickin BILLION dollars!! Is he as high as his son is stupid? We already pay property taxes and income taxes for what? to get our trash picked up once a week? Our neighborhoods never receive snow removal services. Where is all the money going? It's going to the cronies of the City Council and the Mayor.

He needs to be recalled for his fiscal ineptness. He is a fiscal retard and his son is a socially challenged retard. Can't wait to see him locked up.

  45. Kyle is a grown man, and in most cases that means he is to blame for his own actions. That being said, when his father is in a position of power and uses that power to get Kyle out of trouble, then he is 100% responsible. He's taught Kyle that he can do anything he wants and get away with it. That places blame on good ol Sly
