DUMB MOVE BY KMBZ IGNORES SO MANY KANSAS CITY FANS OF CONSERVATIVE AND KICK-ASS TALKER DARLA JAYE!!!
It has been long time since I've talked to Darla.
It was fun, intense and exciting debating a bunch of Kansas City issues and sometimes even standing up to a Conservative regarding immigration.
Awhile back we agreed to stop the regular appearances and just talk when something fun in KC happened . . . Because nothing fun ever happens in KC, we haven't talked for some time.
And today this happened: Jonathan Weir, most recently a radio personality at Entercom’s WSKY in Gainesville, FL, will replace Chris Merrill on “The Voice of Merrill” show weekdays from 9 – 11 a.m on NewsRadio 98.1FM/980 AM KMBZ.
All of this prologue is just a way to provide a bit of backstory and let everybody know that there's nothing in it for me when I note the following . . . In fact, this probably won't help Darla but that's my intent:
KMBZ HAS IGNORED THEIR LOCAL AUDIENCE BY HIRING SOME OUT OF TOWN DUDE INSTEAD OF RECOGNIZING THAT DARLA JAYE IS THE QUEEN OF KANSAS CITY TALK RADIO AND HAS A DEVOTED FOLLOWING OF LOCAL CONSERVATIVE FANS!!!
I'm not a Conservative. It probably works better for local libs that she doesn't have a daytime spot and her fans have created something out of nothing in the evening.
Still . . . I MUST note that Darla is one of the few Conservatives who will accept a challenge any liberal face to face without a moment of hesitation. She's way more entertaining than just hearing talking points from other Conservative hosts and she has consistently found a way to make the personal political (and vice versa) in order to captivate a crowd of people who have been a bigger part of local voting blocs than most folks can imagine.
She's putting on a great show that I'm listening too right now . . . However . . .
KMBZ FAILING TO CAPITALIZE ON THEIR LOCAL AND CONSERVATIVE AUDIENCE DURING THE DAYTIME IS A HORRIBLE MOVE!!! ALSO, THE SUBURBANITE "HAPPY TALK" ROUTE THE STATION IS TAKING IS REALLY KIND OF A SNOOZE FEST!!!
Again, Darla is doing her best to liven things up starting at 6 and her show is really one of the last great places for local discussion on the air . . . Meanwhile, Scott Parks, the new dude and so much else on KMBZ seemingly hopes to imitate the audio equivalent of "The View" and it doesn't sound like it's working.
DEVELOPING . . .
Corporations are closing things up for election year.

Dana & Parks lost me a while back Parks is bearable but Wright is nothing more than a liberal mouthpiece, falling for the same old liberal clap-trap and cliches. The fact they were recognized by Top Talkers only weeks after getting rolling tells me that Top Talkers was really scraping to get to the top 250! With Shanin out, they'll lose listeners because Shanin was the common sense foundation to Park's irresponsible rants aginst the conservative wing of the party.

She's gettin shit on but moving her AGAIN she'd get shit on even more.
Nope - this long time listener is quickly changin the habits and is a happier person for it!
I haven't listened much lately, but definitely miss Mike Shannin, I though he and Parks made a pretty good pair. Parks is a pretty good spokesman for "The not old rich white guy" side of the Republican party, leave the social issues alone, and tackle what is important, it's the economy.

ReplyDeleteI am NOT a fan of DJ (not a hater, just not my cup of tea since she started drinking the tea) plus, she's shock-jock rude to callers that challenge her points and I'm too prissy to be comfortable with that. I do know she's got a dedicated fan base and I continue to be surprised that she's not found employment elsewhere after being moved to a time slot that is constantly being pre-empted by college sports.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I LOVED Merrill! Loved, loved, loved. But the idea to keep him on the air after he quit, talking as though he was still here, was lame at best, insulting at worst. It was like someone breaking up with you but tossing you a bone asking to stay friends. I think it hurt his credibilty as a no-bullshit host. TKC was propping him up by keeping him up on the local issues.

ReplyDeleteego now. I think hes dodne a pretty good job and they couldn't hold him...due to their programming mistakes with afternoon drive.
Dana's not so good and no she and Scott don't click. Darla's a witch, just what the right likes. She should move to NJ, she'd love Chris Christie.

ReplyDeleteImiss Mike Shanin, I don't listen to Dana and Parks, I listened for a couple of weeks and they were terrible.
ReplyDeleteDarla I really like what she did back when, now it like she does the same talk show that is on at 9:00 and at 2:00 I really liked all the people Darla had on Tony's Kc and all the talk she did about politics.
A few weeks back I emailed the station and told them how bad all this is go back to the way it was and he thanked me for emailing him and he said his rating was great.
So I just quit listing to them I listen to 103.7 now.
