But we TRUST Smokey! We do! That's the only reason the last council had when they voted for the fucked up MAST implosion. We Trust Him With Our Lives! Stop asking for real numbers, you are just being mean. He is doing the best He can under the circumstances. Smokey is a God. He bleeds for his guys! He told us so as his voice quivered with REAL pain last week during the committee of the whole. I love this little guy!
We don't need no stinkin' numbers. We don't care that the Firefighters get 3 hours of training compared with the over-training the MAST people had to endure. We like the basic "load 'em and roll" method of medical transport we currently get. And even if the rumor is true and that the Research Medical Doctors sent a letter to the Health Board signalling distress at the falling quality of care that rolls into their ER bay.. just who do they think they are to question Smokey.

Ambulance response times are a joke and a disaster waiting to happen. Ive seen it over and over again and it has gotten way worse since the city took over. This city could not properly manage an ant farm

John Sharp is the one who should get credit for this mess.

Smokey should retire and should give back that generous bonus package.

Smokey should be fired and give that retirement deal to his 250 EMS employees who have been working for the last 2 years without retirement or a pension!!

A bunch of former Mast cry babies is all I hear. Put down the bag of chips and get your ass to the scene, fatty! The girls are all over weight that work for the fire department. Is this a requirement? I would like a hot chick to save me instead of a lard ass who needs more oxygen than I do.

If you think response times are bad now wait for 105 fire department layoffs. Layoffs will come from bottom up taking out emergency medical technicians in the already understaffed ambulances both by medics and emts. What happens when an ambulance can't be staffed. That apparatus at the station is shut down bringing on more calls for other ambulances and almost doubling response times from ambulances much further away from the emergency address.

Enjoy the new trolley they just passed. 101 million dollars they are spending on this ridiculous thing and cutting 105 firemen to try and save 7.5 million. Who's pockets are being padded by this one Sly? The next go around, I believe we will have a new mayor and a whole new grove of city council members. These folks are a total fail. Un believable spending. I hope these trolleys can make it to an emergency scene to dave someone's life. Idiots!

How about a new 1000 room hotel, or yet another park? I can see why the city doesn't have any money.

Why doesn't FIRE look up how the City of St. Louis handled the understaffed ambulance service there. They really screwed over the FD by pulling anyone with an EMT license to go on the ambulance for anywhere from a couple of hours to 10 or 12 hours, can't remember which. What would that do for response times to a fire. Oh yeah they also pulled a bunch of benefits from the FD too becasue the FD wouldn't let the city have their retirement. Check out the article called "Dems and Hoses" it's a five part series from one of the St. Louis papers.

First off, where are you getting your info, and 8:10 I take it your an expert on this subject? The fire/ems department isn't hallmark or sprint. One thing I have learned in my short 31 years on this earth is unless you have been in a business that is in question you can't relate to, then you can't give a accurate complaint. If you all must know, firemen in this city are also emt's. We go to ceu's just like the ambulance crews do. So if they cut 105 from the department they will come from the bottom, they will be emt's but there are a lot more emt's left. But let's look at another issue, when your in a situation where you are cutting budgets from ANY city department you don't build a trolley train!! So instead of hammering a nationally known fire chief that has changed the way dept.'s across the country operate, hammer the shit out of your city council. There the ones making the mistakes. Look up the top 50 cities and look at the land they protect, then look at how large there fire/ems departments are. We do a pretty good job with what we have.

Former MAST employees do have a pension, it started the day you became a city employee and not retro for when you were not a city employee. Don't like it, get the fuck out.

11:55 is the idiot. Before you bash the streetcars, why don't you educate yourself on where their funding is coming from? And I might just choose a streetcar to pick me up from an emergency, given the crap response times of MAST.

Yah streetcar funding not coming from kc taxpayers haha just like power light and Cordish said the same. Right! They sit back and collect from taxpayers for another failed project just like the toy train will be
