THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! AUSTERITY, LOWERED EXPECTATIONS AND SCREWED UP PRIORITIES IN KANSAS CITY!!!

More than anything else this week, cruel financial reality seems to have lowered expectations and given us a reality check in Kansas City.

Like it or not, Kansas City's negative bond outlook and shaky financial future defines life in this cowtown more than anyone would like to think. Everything else is pretty much PR.

In light of an uncertain economic future for Kansas City, so many local topics and challenges are put in a rather stark perspective.

For instance . . .

Mayor Sly's supporters and acolytes touted his Marine credentials and potential for leadership through compromise and mediation . . . Now, it seems that his misguided BILLION DOLLAR borrowing plan and penchant for go-go pet development projects has him spending like a drunken sailor.

And he only seems to be leading a meek Council into one meaningless press event after the next.

Similarly . . .

OF COURSE NEIGHBORS AND RESIDENTS WANT CITY SERVICES, POLICE AND FIRE TO TAKE PRIORITY IN THE BUDGET . . . INSTEAD IT LOOKS LIKE THE ALL-STAR GAME AND A DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN LEAD KANSAS CITY'S SPENDING PRIORITIES!!!

Finally . . .

An increasingly suspect/controversial/divisive story about a kid who claims he was set on fire, a Mayoral school takeover plan gone nowhere and so much political fighting about district lines show us that this town's leadership is forever distracted in the minutia of endless rhetorical battles while failing to focus on the bigger picture.

And while I could note that refocusing on basic services and neighborhoods in Kansas City (instead of pricey pipe dreams) might help steer local leadership in the right direction . . . Nobody pays attention to me anyhoo . . . So all of this has simply inspired tonight's playlist.

As always, thank you for reading and have safe and fun weekend.

  2. Fire and Police do take priority in the budget. There just isn't enough for their hefty demands. They must take cuts in this flat economy.

  3. Fire, police, streets, water services, housing, code enforcement, or much of anything else that really make a difference to residents and businesses in KCMO aren't even on the council radar screen.
Of course, they haven't been for decades and through many previous administrations.
KCMO is run by and for insiders, consultants, development attorneys, downtown boosters, special interests, racial extortionists, and a whole menagerie of hangers-on and assorted other grifters. And by the time all these hungry mouths have been fed, there's just no money left for you.
    A city that works.
    Just not for you.

SOS is right! Racial exstortionists like Freedom Inc, Urban Summit and the group of self-ordained Baptist ministers aka the socially retarded... They've ruined everything. Why they still have any credibility is beyond me! Wish we could spray Raid on them and make them disappear!

  6. Good luck with no fire and police !

  7. Tony, I will donate to your defense fund if you start using another picture of Sly. This one is starting to annoy me.

  8. The city council, racial extortionist, gifters, and other usual suspects of this city cater to free loading, non working, citizens of the inner core who drain society and the tax payers.

Start listening to your tax base! 6:39 is dead on--a city that works...just not for you!

  9. What is sad, this council and mayor actually think they are doing a good job. OMG

  10. City Council

If you continue to favor non tax payers--who typically are non voters. Then you will definitely NOT get my vote.

I will encourage others to do the same.

  11. Sly is a major disappointment as Mayor.

  12. I can guess that there will be at least 1400 firefighters and at least as many cops who won't be casting a single incumbent vote at election time. Not to mention the iaff and fop checks and endorsements. The figure all the wives, husbands, adult children, friends, extended family votes lost too.

hey city council, how's that residency thing working out now?

    ReplyDelete
  13. With votes come power. Not only is public safety teamed up and working together on these issues. The police and fire tandem bring so much power to the table that its somewhat scary. Spread their voice to the friends and family, as well as teachers, and all other unions and you have some potential to elect the best officials into office and give those the boot that are going against the fire department and want to displace 105 workers and those who want to screw the police into the citya health plan. Haha got to love urn!

  14. Sylvester James has to be the WORST Mayor of Kansas City of all times. Disappointment doesn't even scratch the surface of descriptors that come to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 10:53. Council, don't worry about there vote. There are thousands of other city workers who will vote for you because you finally screwed fire fighters and not us.

    1. Lol. Is that what you thought when Sly was citing all the job cuts in the city government? Go ask the public works employees made rendundant if theyre happy. If you own a body shop, you musy be cheering the potholes.

    2. No, not happy. But at least fire is taking their turn in cuts.

  17. Maybe on eof these days after a city election KCMO will actually have a city government.
Not with the current crowd, though. If your house is being broken into, call your TIF bond attorney.

  18. City employees are screwed! Fire, police, water, parks and rec, it doesn't matter. The only people not feeling the hurt are the city council and their cronies.

Ask Troy Shulte and his $60,000 plus thousand dollar raise that he has received since 2009. His yearly salary is in the ball park of $185,000. For the skeptics, look it up. It's public record.

A city that works. But only for the usual suspects.

  19. "If your house is being broken into, call your TIF bond attorney."

    Best line in the thread.

  20. Schulte makes a hell of a lot less than Cauthen did and does a superior job.

  21. 11:42pm,

    Thanks for your input, Troy.
