TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY EXPERTS OFFER A BIT OF EXPLANATION WHY TWO BLACK KIDS ALLEGEDLY BURNING A WHITE KID IS PROBABLY NOT A HATE CRIME!!!
Reactionaries and racists often have an overly simplistic view of the world.
I'm here to help explain some of these complex issues facing Kansas City. Also, I'm a bit of a PC thug but mostly for giggles.
To wit . . .
CHECK OUT A BIT OF EXPLANATION REGARDING AN ALLEGED ATTACK THAT HASN'T BEEN DEFINED AS A "HATE CRIME" BY AUTHORITIES!!!
First of all, HIGH RANKING EXPERTS TALKING TO TKC point out that we need to note the term: Protected Class.
When talking about hate crime in a strictly legal sense the term "Protected Class" is often assigned to groups that have faced historic discrimination and persecution and thereby need protection.
Sorry. That doesn't include white people.
However . . . It's worth noting that within the past few years the LGBT community has fought valiantly to ensure that they are added to what is defined as a "protected class" when it comes to hate crime.
In some states the Transgendered are excluded from hate crime legislation and it's sad to see that very few people cry for members of this community.
From a larger, cultural perspective this passage pulled from The World's Most Accurate Encyclopedia makes a lot of sense . . .
"(Scholars) assert that while certain hate crimes (that they do not specify) against white people are a valid category, that one can "speak sensibly of", and that while such crimes may be the result of racial prejudice, they do not constitute actual racism per se, because a hate crime against a member of a group that is superior in the power hierarchy by a member of one that is inferior cannot be racist. The concept of racism as understood by social scientists and others, they assert, requires as a fundamental element a superior-to-inferior group-based power relationship, which a hate crime against white people does not have. That said, not all social scientists agree or affirm the opinion/supposition that racism litmus tests should be based on a group-based power relationships that include thousands of individuals over hundreds of years, rather they affirm they should be taken on a more individual case by case basis."
There's a lot of balance in that passage but all of this discussion overlooks a simple fact . . .
A KID WAS ALLEGEDLY SET ON FIRE AND SO MANY RACISTS ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH THE SUBJECT OF HATE CRIMES AGAINST WHITE PEOPLE THAN THE SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS IN KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!!
The kind of dogmatic chatter that powers these discussions doesn't really convince anyone but usually just serves to illustrate the very serious divisions that STILL exist in Kansas City.
Nevertheless, in this instance exposing the entitlement mentality and persecution complex of so many reactionaries is important if only to show that, for some, politics always takes precedence over public safety.

It is wrong to say that only "racists are more concerned with the subject of hate crimes..." White people want the perpetrators to be charged with the maximum amount of crimes that a white person would have charged against them. Everybody wants "equality" after all don't they? More important, many white people want to point out the disparity of crime committed by such a small part of our population, especially committed against white people. And when does a minority stop being a minority. The white kid is a minority at his school. I'm guessing is a minority in his neighborhood. His parents (he lives with both, some people in our area should try it some time) chose to live in the urban core and what did it get them? Now they say they are moving. You can't blame whitey for "white flight." Are you supposed to stay around and watch your property values and everything else go to shit?

1) The area has a predominantly non-white general population
2) Both elected officials in city government from that council district are black.
3) The Mayor is black
4) The Police Chief is black
5) The US Congressman is black
6) The US Preident is black
How much more of the "power structure" must be non-white for this crime to be considered a hate crime?
Plus, this is no more a school issue than if the kid were coming back from church makes it a religious issue.
For all the 2 perps knew, this kid was returning from playing hopscotch at h playground. Would that make it a park safety issue?
I was always taught justice is colorblind. When a crime is committed that has a racial element as the motivating factor, calling for fundamental human rights and equal protection under the law is never racist, no matter what. Fuck you, Tony.
Race is a protected class, regardless of which one you're from.

The fact is this, had the ALLEGED victim been black or hispanic, you would cling to the racial aspect of the case like a pitbull to a meat bone. It doesn't matter what dubious "experts" you quote, I'm assuming it's your liberal lady lawyer. Black on white crime is a common occurence that rarely gets any coverage. ReplyDelete@Nonsense, bullshit and fuck you. I agree. I'm Black and have been a target of all of those Blacks mentioned. That should be a hate crime but it isn't. Never again will I corner myself with all Black anything. It usually ends with a storyline of "penniless and without a pot to piss in." It's dangerous for whitey and dangerous for Blacks who don't agree with the status quo. It is pure bullshit what is happening in the 3rd District! Nobody should be set on fire under any circumstance. You'd think that Blacks would be more sympathetic given the lynchings and burnings that occurred post-slavery. Instead they're wielding a "he must have had it coming" attitude. But then again, we allow our children to shoot us in the back; leave us damn-near dead and paralyzed and then move back home anytime they feel like. Just look at the Mayor's son... Remember the angry kid? That's real. Until we change that dynamic... we'll never see things for what they are.
ReplyDelete@SOS - I agree. If we start teaching urban kids some basics and raise our standard of socialization, we wouldn't be posting comments on this blog about what is and isn't a hate crime. Knowing that in the United States of America; all men are created equal.

ReplyDeleteHate crime legislation is a legacy of the civil rights era. It has its place but more often then not it is misused. Not even federal courts have clear standards. It's better to charge people with the real crime they have committed: Assault than hope for a distinction that doesn't always hold up in court.

ReplyDeleteAccording to the FBI hate crimes due to someone's anti-white bias do occur and are reported. In fact 17.7% were reported in 2009.

So it has nothing to do with whites being a non-protected class.
It is "race" that is the protected class.
I believe it has more to do with the fact that a lot of crime that may be committed against whites has more to do with good old fashioned greed (wanting to rob someone or take from someone the offender thinks is doing better) and that just happens to be a white person.
