PLEASE DON'T COUNT ON THE MLB ALL-STAR GAME TO SAVE KANSAS CITY!!!

The New Republic mythbusts a great deal of the hype that Kansas City politicos are counting on to turn around the fortunes of this town: Economists, Robert A. Baade and Victor A. Matheson of Lake Forest College reviewed the economic impact of All-Star Games between 1973 and 1997 and found that “the economic impact of the All-Star Game on the host city could be negative and is certainly likely on average to be much lower than the magnitude of the most recent MLB estimate.”

The CVA estimates a $60 million "boost" to the KC economy. All the money will go to hotels and restaurants owned by out-of-town corporations and the local KCMO taxpayers will pick up the extra $1 million+ tab.
And not actually go to the game.
Thanks for playing.
Acity that works. Just not for you.

"between '73 and '77? You mean when players wore stirrup socks and did blow in the dugout? that should be super insightful.

Google is 100 times, maybe a thousand times more important to this town than the All Star Game.

Tony is right.

Tony? You are referencing a liberal publication with a circulation of only 50,000?

This article is based on a 2001 article, in regards to the MLB All Star Games of 1973-1997 Tony.

This reporting is 15 years out of date.

Yeah, that's a credible source. Lol.

KC will be broke when Sly is done with us.

Every lame-assed politician, political hack and their idiot off spring will be pulling strings to attend that over-hyped game. That is the low-level measure of the fake event.

8:49.

"Fake event"?

You mean the All Star Game is computer generated? Kauffman Stadium will be empty that night?

Who would have known?
