OCCUPY KC CO-OPTS MLK DAY!!!

A remix of sorts from our friends @ Occupy KC. . .

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on economic injustice in America

A TKC question for your consideration . . .

DO YOU THINK MLK WOULD HAVE ENDORSED THE HOBBIES OF A BUNCH OF HOBOS AND HIPSTERS WHO HAVE MADE MORE NEWS FOR HOOKERS & HERB @ THEIR CAMPSITE THAN ANY OF THEIR LOCAL POLITICAL MOVES?!?!?!

To be fair . . . Most of their signs are very clever.

And whenever somebody shows up to challenge the hegemony/patriarchy/oligarchy with one of those Dr. Seuss Hats . . . I take notice.

  1. Are they STILL around? I guess they come out on just warmer days, maybe to see if they can see their shadows.
This has to be one of the lamest groups ever in KCMO, and that's saying alot!

Dr King would be more likely to hang with the OCCUPY people than the grifters from the East Side who take his message and massage it until it fits their mantra.

  3. You should probably check your facts, brother. OKC was ASKED to co-sponsor the second longest running MLK event in the nation (which is held at friendship baptist church) and was ASKED to put this video together for that event.

You know why they were asked to do all this? Because twenty four seven, they are fighting for full equality, both economically and socially.

They didn't co-opt anything, you idiot. They were asked to join in unity with a number of nonprofits who do work in the black community and Kc at large to inspire the city with the fact that there are folks fighting for humanity everyday.

In fact, they were asked to do this by the SCLC- which Dr. King founded. I mean, for god's sake, there was a national call to action by former NAACP Exectutive director Ben Chavis to do this very thing, all across the nation. And over sixteen of our major cities in America, including Kansas City, are participating in that very thing, which is now known as "Occupy the Dream".

    Idiot.

  4. Really? You're criticizing anyone when your version of celebrating this holiday is objectifying a black girl, rather than a white one?

  5. Did the SCLC "call to action" say anything about demanding some responsible behavior and common decency by people like the thugs who shot up the Independence Mall yesterday? Did it talk about working hard, getting an education, and pulling your own weight?
Or is it still just about marching around, lighting candles, and demanding "our fair share"?
The local chapters of the NAACP, SCLC, Urban League, and all the rest go through hundreds of thousands of dollars every year in KCMO. Yet there are two murders in a 50-block area on the east side every week of the year and there's not so much as a comment about it.
What, exactly, do these folks do?

  6. Tony KC, getting it wrong again, completely wrong. Keep posting cartoons from your friends, it's the caliber of "journalism" you're best suited for.

  7. Hookers and Herb? You're just silly and hateful, still repeating a few a rumors from how many months ago?

  8. Great post! The Occupy jerks are pointless. They have no message, and no brains.

What does the SCLC ever do except make money for their higher ups. "Reverend" Fuzzy made big bucks using KC tourism dollars to put bucks in his pocket under the guise of an MLK celebration.

  9. I want to know how the 10-20 Occupy douchelords are "fighting for our freedom" by sitting in nasty tents and playing bongos and hacksack in the middle of, what used to be, a semi-nice park? Since they like to use the "99%" reference so much, I'm pretty sure 99% of Kansas City has forgotten about Occupy KC and/or don't give a shit about them.

  10. "To be fair . . . Most of their signs are very Cleaver. "

    There... fixed that for you.

  11. The actual campsite is so very little of what the occupation is working on or about. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. To be fair... Your attempt at insult was very clever. See what I did there :) hahaha
