KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES PRACTICES HIS TAX AND SPEND 'STATE OF THE CITY' SPEECH OVER THE WEEKEND!!!

Most Kansas City residents believe that Mayor Sly James is genuinely a good person with the best intentions at heart.

They're probably right.

However . . .

ONLY THE MOST ARROGANT KANSAS CITY POLITICO WOULD DARE TO SUGGEST RAISING TAXES, TAKING AWAY RIGHTS FROM VOTERS AND THEN SPENDING CASH ON A TOURIST TRAP TOY TRAIN IS A GOOD IDEA!!!

Still, he did all this while smiling so I guess it's okay.

Nevertheless, the Mayor's warm up speech before his official STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS he touted a host of horrible efforts.

Mayor Sly is still pushing his Kansas City Public School Takeover Plan despite the fact that it's dead on arrival and only serves to show how little influence he has in Jeff City.

MAYOR SLY TALKED ABOUT THE NEED TO RAISE TAXES IN KANSAS CITY . . . HE DID IT WITH A STRAIGHT FACE AND WITHOUT A GOOD PUNCHLINE!!!

And then Mayor Sly made mention of the Kansas City Downtown Toy Train . . .  It's a proposal to spend $100 Million on a train that travels roughly the distance of a brisk walk and is touted as yet another tourist trap despite EXPENSIVE evidence that strategy hasn't work for Kansas City so far.

Still . . . Mayor Sly said it all with a smile and claims that he doesn't care about a second term. Given that he's had almost a year in office and still hasn't had one major accomplishment or original idea . . . Despite the smiles, maybe it's time to seriously consider the lack concern for voters from Mayor Sly James.

  1. The state of KCMO is bad and going downhill fast.
Millions of dollars have been poured into upside down projects like the P&L District, Citadel Plaza, and the drunk trolly, and now the streetcars will suck up millions more for years, if only just for consultants' studies.
Homicides continue at the rate of two every week and sewer and water upgrades which will cost BILLIONS are just over the horizon. And tax breaks, TIFs, and other incentives continue to erode the general fund.
Of course, this has been going on for decades, driven by insiders, developers, racial extortionists, and business swells, and KCMO electeds just can't say no.
And now a proposal for a tax increase put on the same people who are already paying for all this crap caused by poor priorities and outright incompetence. And the reason given is the need for more money for BASIC SERVICES!
I doublt that Pat Gray, Steve Glorioso, and the other usual liars can pull this off!

  2. "MAYOR SLY TALKED ABOUT THE NEED TO RAISE TAXES IN KANSAS CITY . . . "

I thought we were told the E-tax and Public safety tax would take care of this? I guess they already wasted that money. Yeah raise taxes for the new train we don't need.

  3. We don't "need" more Taxes.

    We NEED to Cut Spending.

City Hall spends like a teenager with there first credit card.

  4. It would be stupid to cut spending in the middle of a recession. It is that kind of 17th century economic thought that gave us the recession to begin with.

Even Herbert Hoover asked county and city governments to spend in 1929-30, which was not enough to get the job done but it helped.

Borrowing should increase now to restart the econmy, then as revenues rise, taxes should be raised to pay off that debt. It is the only way out that works.

  5. Hey E-tax douchebag, give it a rest. YOU have the choice to move and work in JOCO and pay those taxes.

Yeah, keep spending and dig the debt hole deeper, that will help.

  7. We have being doing the borrow and spend at the federal level. It doesn't work, KC is in debt more than any other City it's size. P&L $12 million, firefighters $50 million, $500,000 study for downtown hotel study, these only some of the way KC is wasting taxpayer money. Spend the money right quit wasting it.

  8. KC is a LOST cause. The oligarchy don't care, as long as they get theirs. Sly is just a front man. Besides Tony who thought anything would change?

  9. Sly is worse than the Funk.

Sly is on a spending spree, and you and I are going to have to pay for it in higher Taxes. He's out buying stuff we don't need, all the while the things that need to be repaired are getting ignored.

  10. This really stinks.
The Taxpayer in Kansas City is really getting screwed.

  13. The most pressing need is to fix our water/sewer system but it's not glamourous enough for them. Sell it and let someone who has an interest in it address the problems because City Hall never has and never will.

  14. Tax and spend in a damn dessert... nobody lives in Kansas City... Who is he taxing? Another assault on homeowners...
