1989 rape charges

A man taken into custody in the state of Washington is being charged with the rape and robbery of a Kansas City woman in 1989, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Gregory Allen, 60, faces charges of Assault 1st Degree, two counts of Forcible Sodomy, Forcible Rape and Robbery 1st Degree.

According to court records, a 34-year-old Kansas City woman reported in July 1989 that a stranger entered her residence in the early morning, struck her in the head with a metal object, raped her, bound her hands and stole money, jewelry and her car. Using DNA technology this May, DNA taken from the scene of the 1989 crime was matched to Allen.

This case was co-investigated by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Cold Case Unit and the Kansas City Police Department’s Sex Crimes Cold Case Unit.

Allen was taken into custody in Des Moines, WA, and will be returned to Kansas City to face these charges.

Prosecutors have recommended a $350,000 cash bond.
