TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! PRICEY WOODSIDE VILLAGE PROPOSAL SCARES NEARBY RESIDENTS!!!

Shame on the local media for refusing to pick up this story about a growing concern among neighbors in Kansas City suburban neighborhood.

This story is right up my alley because I know a few people in the neighborhood AND it's basically the timeless tale of a rich real estate developer making plans without much input from the community. Even in middle-class white communities, the story of gentrification and income disparity when it comes to access to local government remains a constant.

Sure, The Woodside Village proposal looks nice in presentation form . . .

BUT NEARBY RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN SOUNDING THE ALARM BELLS ABOUT THE FINANCES OF THE PROJECT!!!

And here's where KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS give mainstream media a few marching orders . . . TAKE A LOOK AT PROPERTY OWNERSHIP NAMES NEXT TO THE PROJECT AND YOU'LL LIKELY SEE SOME INTERESTING CONNECTIONS ACCORDING TO SOME AWESOME TIPSTERS!!!

So, local newsies . . . You now have a homework assignment from working-class white people who are concerned about their neighborhood.

An anony tip came in today that once again demonstrates that neighbors surrounding the proposed project don't blindly accept power point presentations amid The Great Recession. Check the money quote:

"They're sure trying to ram this thing through. The retail numbers make absolutely no sense!!!"

Development is a nice thing but take a look at the state of the old school Mission Mall Demolition Zone and realize that even JoCo has endured challenges thanks to development schemes that don't always pay off.

KANSAS CITY BLOGGER CITIZEN JOURNALIST LUCAS ASKS ALL OF THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEW WOODSIDE VILLAGE PROPOSAL!!!

Comments

  1. Those buildings are really ugly, and so ordinary. Where's the creativity?

  2. it's in the financing.

  3. Good thing the E-Tax passed.

  4. it's in woodside. they only pay the e-tax, no benefit from it.

  5. You're right 7:54am. They get no benefit from the e-tax, but neither does anyone in KCMO. At least unless you're a contractor, povery pimp, grifter, consultant, development attorney, or other insider. Then, let the good times roll!

  6. You do realize that the real boogeyman in this is the fact that the development proposal includes APARTMENTS, which have never been allowed in Westwood.

They are afraid that brown people might want to live there.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sure the retail numbers don't make any sense to you. You can't do math.

  8. Take a long look at Lucas's other blog "Deconstructing Woodside Village" for a lot of comments about what is wrong with this project.
Millions for private land(Youthfront) and Westwood gets nothing for its land;"blight" designation on a roof and a building Woodside was required to keep up(Roof has been leaking for 10 years)and a dubious retail/apartment project that a majority of Westwood residents(I am one) positively DO NOT WANT.

  9. what a bunch of dribble...the Woodside Village development proposal isn't perfect but it does:

    1. diversify the tax base
    2. add new residents and energy to a small, stagnating city
    3. make more for the City from Woodside
    4. Provide more services to the city residents
    5. improve safety and security of the neighborhood

Almost all of my neighbors (lived here 17 years) are for all of the above.

  10. pretty easy for some people to just make stuff up...the blog article said "not much input from the community." I've seen the development team at dozens of meetings taking questions and inupt from all comers, had neighbors who oppose this tell me they had personal meetings with the developer and I've seen the plans and terms of the deal change as a result.

One of your bloggers writes "Westwood gets nothing for its land." They must have missed the last Westwood Foundation meeting. The outline shared there has the city getting millions for the land, a renegotiated lease and millions in improvements.

I'm glad we have a City council and Planning Commission paying attention here...it is VERY cool!

  11. The tip: "TAKE A LOOK AT PROPERTY OWNERSHIP NAMES NEXT TO THE PROJECT AND YOU'LL LIKELY SEE SOME INTERESTING CONNECTIONS" ...is not much of an awesome tip. I suppose it refers to the Mayor's home being next to the proposed development. Not news.

The Mayor talks about it at every meeting, is open about his situation and seems very purposeful about having an open, community-driven process for this decision.

The better "tip" would be listing the names of the project detractors and the rental properties they own in and around the development. It seems many of them are trying to lock our community into having only their rental properties available.

  12. I'm against 330 apartment units next to my neighborhood because of the increased congestion. But kudos to the architects of Woodside Village. Contrary to persistent ignorant opinion, it's very cool design. But you knew that.
