TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! GREATER KANSAS CITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE E-TAX SHAKE UP: DAN COFRAN ROLE DOWNSIZED!!!

This hasn't been a good week for Dan Cofran . . .

Mayor-elect Sly James disavowed Cofran's now infamous "don't work here" comment.

An AWESOME TKC TIPSTER goes on to tell us:

"The Pro-E-Tax campaign took a hit and some humiliation when Cofran was featured in an anti-E-Tax advert . . .

"...and following his horrible performance in a "debate" on KCUR this morning with the lawyer representing Polsinelli/Highwoods...

"...The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce has sacked Dan Cofran and will no longer let him serve as the faceman for the pro-E-tax campaign.

"Cofran was scheduled to debate Woody Cozad again this Friday but, instead of risking further damage to the campaign, the Chamber of Commerce has replaced him Kristi Smith Wyatt, the Senior Vice President of the Chamber." Update: Dianne Cleaver, one of the Keep KC Alive campaign co-chairs will be replacing Dan.

Expect the Chamber to slap a coat of "nice" on this news but don't expect to see Cofran espousing the benefits of the E-Tax any time soon. No word on whether or not the dude will remain a friend of The Plaza.

DEVELOPING . . .

Comments

  1. Maybe these performances have something to do with the fact that every issue Dan's represnting to the public keeps losing.
This campaign is all window dressing, smoke and mirrors, and nonsense anyway.
If the e-tax winning depended on the credibility of KCMO city governmnet and spending that money responsbily, it wouldn't have a chance.

  2. tell that bitch to shut the fuck up!

  3. Kansas City is LOSING business because of the stupid E-Tax. Get rid of it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Greed, greed, greed. Kansas City seems to be in the business of redistributing WEALTH instead of just providing basic jurisdictional services.

Probably no profit in that for politicos.

VOTE NO on the eTAX. C'mon TV stations, don't wait until election night to deal with this! Yeah yeah, you never met a crime scene you didn't like!

BTW, does KC have more firemen than we really need? Ask the Fire chief to provide you with comparison statistics!

  6. Oh dunno. That was really dumb of Cofran to say that. Clearly he's not a publicist...but he wasn't hired to front, he was hired to get things done.

Clearly he hasn't been schooled in giving talking head and that's the fault of those who put him out front without having done so.

So lets not blame HIM as much as the morons running that campaign! He's obviously a smart guy because his answer "don't work here" makes complete intellectual sense... if not politically correct.

Fact is, people who work n KCMO and live elsewhere are thinking the same thing! What he said was honest, just not intended to be put on TV commercials!

Foot in mouth disease is just a temporary malady, like the flu.

  9. Shut up Radioman. You don’t even live in KC. And last I checked, you are a blogger, and just cause you don’t live in your moms basement does not give you the authority to make decisions that can make or break Kansas City. It is guys like you that give bloggers a bad name. The E tax needs to pass, and if you knew what you were talking about the City is looking at alternative methods in bring revenue in, but it will take time to develop. Your ass is not sitting in the meetings like mine is. Take your little domain and your ball and go home. No one cares what you say. The only reason I even know your name is that you constantly post on this blog. If you want to blog, stay on your own P.O.S. site and leave everyone else alone.
If I am interested in your opinion, I will go on your site.

Funk you. You have absolutely no right to tell another commentator to go away. Who the hell do think you are? If the other people in these meetings are assholes like you, than KCMO is doomed.

"The E tax needs to pass, and if you knew what you were talking about the City is looking at alternative methods in bring revenue in, but it will take time to develop"

Can you please elaborate on these alternative methods of "Bringing revenue in"? Perhaps the city needs to just CUT some spending!! Did we elect ANY fiscal conservatives?
Down with the Etax, they have 10 years to figure stuff out!

  15. The Kansas Chamber should be helping out and raising money for the pro-E Tax campaign. Other than the high crime rate and horrible schools, it the next best thing to moving businesses and people out of KCMO.

  16. The E-Tax isn't going anywhere guys. The opposition to this tax is already so desperate that they're offering to BUY votes at an ice cream social. Start shifting the conversation to, what do we want to do to possibly "adjust" the etax, or what demands do we have for budget reform. There is no way that the majority of this city will vote to take away our single largest form of revenue without a way to replace it.

  17. The E-Tax is HURTING Kansas City.
    Get RID of it.

  20. the E-Tax is paying for KC services. It's not perfect, but its what we have today. Things are getting better.

And BRYON... really. A little testy today. Did your mom not make you your favorite breakfast this moring.
It's guys like you that give bloogers a bad name. Using the F'bomb to try and get your point across is the best you can do.
The guy that left the post is at least going to meetings and learning things. What are you and your righhand man radioman doing to actually learn more and not just throw stones.

    Anon 9:19 is right.
Your all angry talk and emotions. Get a life and a real job.

  21. The E-tax is great for Kansas City!

In fact, I think we should raise it to 10% so that we can blow all the suburban communities out of the water in the growth and prosperity category!

    (dripping with sarcasm)

Blah, blah, blah Its Byron, dick head. I was going to leave, but I realized I was annoying Yuppie Scum, so I decided to stay. Funk you, too. I'm retired from wage slavery; I would rather starve than make a rich man richer.

  23. Cofran is also on the wrong side of that Highwoods building project. Polsinelli has come around with a very attractive design that would be good for the Plaza. Storefront retail is down over 30% and it ain't coming back! Forty percent of Plaza sales come from folks driving in from over 50 miles away. What do you think $5 gasoline and Mideast problems are going to do to this? The health of the Plaza has to include office and jobs right in that neighborhood. This Save the Plaza crew is insane. Cofran is right there with 'em.

  24. If Kansas can just keep getting all the businesses, more and more of us won't have to "work here."

    That's our fervent hope!

  26. Light rail will save Kansas City!

  28. When ya get comments like I am in this thread, Byron, ya know you're making a great deal of sense.

They can't stand common sense arguements...not when emotional scare tactics are their strategy.

Do we have too many firemen? We MUST...for if we didn't, they'd have shouted me down in the first five minutes with facts.

Vote NO... force city gumment to thin out the herd of these assholes in here whining to save their non-productive jobs!!

What do ya bet that suburban jurisdictions have unspoken policies not to hire KCMO people?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Let me get this straight. They are replacing Coffran with a Cleaver? Right. That name is synonymous with fiscal responsibility.

  31. Libertarian Kevin3/31/11, 5:19 PM

In the November 2010 election when the e-tax proposition was up for a statewide vote, didn't it FAIL in KCMO? Will people suddenly decide to switch their votes? Will people crawl out from under their non-voting rocks to actually cast a vote FOR keeping this tax? Will Batman and Robin escape the Penguin's evil lair?

  32. the e-tax sucks.

  33. Just for the record: I am not the blogger Byron Crawford. I am Byron Funkhouser. I am just a commentator here. Regardless of your delusions of superior worth, we each get to make as many comments as we wish & we can say what ever we want. And yes,'Dammit George' we can swear, too. Democracy isn't possible without freedom of speech. STFU is unAmerican.
