TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! 6TH DISTRICT AT-LARGE SIGN WARS HAVE ALREADY STARTED!!!

Earlier in the week I was really impressed with a KICKASS PINK CAMPAIGN SIGN from 6th District At-Large City Council Candidate Tracy Ward. Upon first seeing the really cool looking image, I was convinced it was the work of one of Kansas City's professional consultants. Instead, I learned the graphic was created by Jud Kite who works as a freelancer out of Lawrence, Ks. and also created Ward's wedding invitations. I was looking for an excuse to post it and here it is . . .

Ward is starting to ramp up her fund-raising efforts. Additionally, it seems like Tracy Ward supporters are kicking off her campaign by spoofing the signs of Missouri State Rep. Jason Holsman.

The obviously added text to Holsman's sign represents an issue that has become a major talking point among critics who don't like the State Rep. seemingly running for two offices at the same time.

Holsman hasn't formally announced his candidacy for Kansas City's 6th District At-Large Council seat . . . But he's in, and more importantly he not only has the support of Kansas City's Democrat elite but also the blessing of outgoing City Council Cutie Cathy Jolly.

The argument against Holsman running for City Council and State Rep. is that it would cost taxpayers additional money to replace him should he win and move on to the Council seat after his impending State Rep. Victory.

However, I've talked to a few local experts and this kind of thing happens all the time and isn't regarded as a significant political sin. In fact, it's pretty much standard procedure throughout Missouri politics.

Nevertheless, it's interesting to see that Ward supporters have an eye for both design and political details.

  2. That sign sucks, but not as good as your mother.

  3. I won't vote for Tracy because of her E-tax view. Obviously she has no clue how to run a City. Did you know a majority of the E-tax is paid by Kansans who work in Kansas City? If eliminated, Kansas City residents would loose out.

  4. Watch for all Tracy's supporters to chime in. Look them up, they don't even live in Kansas City.

  5. Gosh, Tony, I think you should be the central point from which all knowledge in Kansas City flows. You have the most reliable informants, and your veracity is above question. We don't need any other news sources while we have you. I think YOU should be Mayor!

    Love,

The filing for municipal races do not open until the November elections have concluded. It is IMPOSSIBLE for a person to run for two race at the same time if one of those races cannot accept candidates until the other one is complete.

Having said that, those spoof signs are pretty damn funny.

All the same, Holsman will be the next 6th at-large city councilman and will do a good job.

Tracy you should support him and actually be an effective voice for your community.

  7. Nice font selection and fun play of color with the reference to her pink hair. However, the voters of Kansas City are well informed and intelligent. They will look at the positions and issues and vote accordingly... Oh, wait. Nevermind. The voters of KC are all fundamentally retarded or products of KCMSD... Welcome to the Council Ms. Ward.

  8. Great sign. Remember what happened last time Kansas Citians were charmed by a colorful sign. I think it was bright orange ...

  9. Do you think Holsman will think her beating him is sexy?

Welcome to the 6th at large city council debate. Each candidate will be make an opening statement.

Tracy ward: redlight cameras are bad mmkay, i encourage all citizens to run red lights then give the judge the finger, i promise to dismantle all city services and make sure we are desmoines before my term ends

Chuck eddy: if you like the fact that we lost strouds restaurant and the bass pro shop in skc then im your guy. If you never want to be called back when you have a constituent problem then vote eddy. I can bring my do nothing approach to the entire city.

Mike brown: i am commander zoolar head of the imperial galaxy. I have been sent here by our great leader xantax to purge the city of all the white devils who are out to destroy our planet.

Jason holsman: the answer is renewable energy. I have invented a solar powered hot dog grown in my urban farm to feed the starving children while powering my electric hybrid. This will create jobs for street vendors in westport and fuel my smugness for being better than you because i drive a hybrid.

Chuck eddy: uh, wait a minute, im against selling anything which will bring business to kansas city

Tracy ward: you could always just steal the hotdogs to keep over head down then you wouldnt have to pay any taxes

Mike brown: i will launch my gamma ray into the hot dog thereby blowing up holsman's hybrid and claim victory in the name of xantax!

Moderator: ok, well, this has been very enlightening for us all, we thank you for taking an hour of our lives that we are sure never to get back, good night everybody

  11. "Did you know a majority of the E-tax is paid by Kansans who work in Kansas City?" I doubt that but even if so the amount just keeps getting smaller as companies move to Kansas or Lee's Summit. The companies that are left get 50% of the employees E-tax as a bribe to stay. Any way you look at it the E-tax is going to decline.

  12. Jefferson City Lobbyst10/1/10, 10:40 AM

I've watched all our Kansas City Reps perform in the capital for the past decade. When Holsman first came to Jeffeson City I thought he was an arrogant schmuck who was too big for his britches(still think that about other KC rep named Jason).

That first session in 2007 Holsman earned a reputation for being a partier, a bit of a ladies man and I figured that he would amount to just another typical politican. But rather it was maturity or he was caught by his wife or I don't know what, but something changed and he came back his second session a more serious person. His reputation improved among the lobbysts as a minority member who could move legislation and I quit seeing him out a night in the bars.

The last three sessions, as far as I know, and I hear everything, Holsman has been a model citizen in Jefferson City. He works well with the Republican majority and I think in general he is well liked among his peers. The average voter will never know how difficut it is for a member of either party to pass legislation and it is rare for that member to serve in the minority. I have grown to like and be very impressed with Holsman's skill as a legislator. He's one of the smartest people in Jefferson City and takes a very rational approach to legisltion. I think he has just began to discover how to use his talents and Kansas City will benefit from his service.

Just two cents from someone who has actually worked with and not just heard about the candidate.

  13. Why does it take "a professional consultant" to design a yard sign?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Most people don't quit their job until they've secured another one. Even thoug it is a public service job, Jason does have a family to support, a mortgage to pay, etc. Whoever has a problem with that should quit their job immediately and run for city council. A thankless job I might add!

  15. What's Tracy's job? Does anyone know?

  16. E Tax facts:

    60% paid by KC residents
20% paid by NonKC MO residents
    20% paid by Kansas residents

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am sure that businesses will be lining up to move to KCMO when city services are slashed by 50% and the already deferred maintenance gets worse. But hell, there won't be a 1% E-Tax.

  18. "the voters of Kansas City are well informed and intelligent."

Stupidest thing I've ever read on this website. Tops most of Tony's blunders.

Good one. Even made me laugh.

  19. The E-Tax is toast.

  20. The voters in Kansas City have gotten tired of being ignored for years by the little gang that runs city hall for their own amusement and financial gain. The members of the crew may change from time to time, but city government never has much of anything to do with the residents who actually live here.
The upcoming election offers at least a chance of changing that, but I wouldn't hold out much hope. Too many folks like the status quo!

QUESTION: Why should Kansans be the ones to support Kansas City, MO.? I live in Kansas and work in KCMO. I see a lot of Missouri cars going to Kansas to work each morning. They don't have to pay an E-tax to work in Overland Park or Olathe.

  22. Justthefacts,

So you think that KC residents will vote to get rid of the E-Tax and be willing to shift that 40% (or more depending on the year) to themselves in the form of a property or land tax? The city will have to do something if they get rid of the E-Tax to make up for the lost revenue. My guess is KC residents aren't going to want to make up that deficit.

  23. KCMO residents probably like the idea of Kansans and other outsiders paying for their miserable city services. It's a matter of pride, I guess, and KCMO doesn't have much any more. Everything is rundown and dirty, and the "leaders" do nothing but whine about Kansas.

  24. A council woman with pink would probably get KC featured on MTV or something.

  25. Hey 11:55 a.m....
Those Missouri residents driving to work in Kansas pay KANSAS state income taxes...you know "taxation without representation"

Same thing you are complaining about.

Because right now an e-tax is in place, has been since the 70's. Don't like it, find a new Kansas job.

As far as Missouri people working in Kansas, you guys could vote for a similar e-tax, then we would get screwed.

Feel free to not use Arrowhead, The K, Worlds of Fun, Sprint Center, the zoo, etc. all of which are in Kansas City.
