COOPERATION BETWEEN KCPD AND CONDO DWELLERS SHUT DOWN CLUB NRG!!!

This is the way a club dies in Kansas City. Or at least, this is how it goes for a club that can't keep their clientele under:

IN A GROUND BREAKING BLOG POST KCPD CHIEF CORWIN PROVIDES DETAILS ON HOW THE COMMUNITY WORKED TO SHUT DOWN "DISRUPTIVE" CLUB NRG!!!

It's hard to keep up with all of the money quotes from the highly detailed story, but here's the best:

" You may have heard news reports about a persistently disruptive club, Club NRG, in downtown Kansas City. On Wednesday, the owner told the City’s Regulated Industries division that he is shutting the club down before he is forced to sell his liquor license Nov. 30.

Let me assure you this didn’t happen by accident. Shutting down this club at 220 Admiral took a concerted effort from the Police Department, Regulated Industries, the Fire Marshall and the community."

Highlights: From Jan. 1, 2008, to Feb. 28, 2009, police were called to the club 111 times.

An important note about community cooperation from the new gentry of Downtown dwellers:

"But now the club is shutting down for good, and what has made the difference this time is the community. They have stepped up to reclaim their neighborhood. Many people live in condos in the area, and had grown frustrated with the violence, noise, traffic, thefts, trash, urine smells and quality-of-life issues."

Just in case anybody was tempted to feel sorry for the place:

"The owner was charging $25 to $65 per person for cover."

So what have we learned?

When neighborhoods cooperate with the KCPD they can work to achieve a desired result.

There is no "Downtown Renaissance" only the pricey P&L District and people obsessing about their falling property values.

Parties never last long in Kansas City. Natch.

  3. You know why they charge the big cover? Cause they are not reporting ANY of that income. The people that hit local clubs don't have a lot of cash, they will show up after drinking and then just nurse a few all night. Thus you charge a big non-taxable cover to offset that loss of revenue.

  4. Doesn't sound to me like this is the fault of the club owner at all, but rather the peeps who can't afford the cover and are opting for entertainment OUTSIDE!

Sounds like a police problem, not a club problem. Those night crawlers will just go somewhere else to hang out. Plaza? Swope Park? Outside P&L? Is there another shopping center that hasn't been torn down to hang out at?

  5. The great and glorious KCPD have done nothing about the ZIN Club and its weekly FRI SAT SUN disruption of our neighborhood. Helicopters and sirens that add to the noise is the extent of the POLICING.

  6. As a downtown resident I can assure you the club was no worse than any other in the city. There are more fights in the parking lot of the Chiefs stadium ater a game than on a average night at this club. KCPD just loves to shut down African American Clubs

  7. It all depends which part of DT you live in. 2 blocks away it was like clock work every Sat and it seemed like Sunday's were particularly bad
