TKC WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS!!!

It was a brutal week in Kansas City politics and while nobody was as strong as Kelly Kelly or a stunning photo gallery of the WWE Diva, there were still a lot of power plays worth noting.

So, let's take a look at some of the most powerful people in Kansas City this week:

POLITICOS

1. Deb Hermann - TKC proclaimed this Council Lady the front runner in the Mayoral race and then a flurry of criticism and hateration came her way. At the end of the week, she's still in first place.

2. Mike Burke - TKC doesn't make political endorsement but mayoral candidate Mike Burke is still my pick as the lesser of all evils in the Kansas City Mayoral Race. And behind the scenes, it's clear that he understands EXACTLY how Kansas City politics works.

3. Terry Riley - Citadel Plaza arrests came down this week and they didn't touch the Council Dude. Riley has withstood a ton of political pressure as of late yet still remains a threat to old school politicos.

4. Jason Kander - In Kansas City, he's probably the politico with the best website AND he's got a potluck fundraiser coming up this weekend which is sponsored by some of this town's deepest pockets. Dude is your next Congressman, just sayin'.

5. Sly James - While the rest of the Mayoral candidates are slugging it out, this Mayoral hopeful is staying clean, under the radar and STILL picking up a ton of cash.

NEWSIES

1. Kris Ketz - He's part of the national Twitterati for TV news people and his utilization of Internet tech has made his news skillz even stronger.

2. KC Stage - The bloggy efforts of this entertainment news org. have been top notch and well worth checking out.

3. The KC Call - Increasingly, this legendary news organization residing in the 18th & Vine District is at the center of local politics.

4. Dos Mundos - They're making the transition to the digital age but still keeping their print roots. Impressive.

5. Midwest Irish Focus - This publication is one of my favorite niche news sites in all of Missouri. Certainly worth checking out for a bit of insight into one of many diverse communities in the Midwest.

MUSICIANS

1. Dave Stephens - Seriously, there is not a more energetic and enthusiastic performer playing this week in Kansas City.

2. Julie Othmer - She's coming back with the Lilith Fair and this Kansas City native is certainly worth checking out.

3. Skilz - We can't forget about his R&B Tribute to Kansas City just yet.

4. Mark Lowrey - I had the opportunity to meet this Kansas City jazz power player this week. Not only is he a rather talented Pianist/Bandleader but also a pretty nice guy.

5. Trio Atzlan - Probably my all-time favorite Kansas City neo-Mariachi group. Also, I like their style because there are 4 members of the trio.

As always, this list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's the strongest guide to local powerful people.

Comments

  1. Trio Atzlan is great.

  2. I like your hints here Tony. Getting better all the time.

  3. I still think you need software that will wrap text around one inch square thumbnails. All these people should have small pix because except in KCMO and JXCO, they're all pretty unknown. Remember tony, we're TRIBAL ANIMALS and we stay in our own neighborhoods.

KC is not a big metro city. It's a bunch of small ones and some of the people share eating establishments but I bet few Johnson Countians eat on the Plaza regularly when they have several huge, well restauranted business areas.

I think KCK now goes to legends and Northland goes to Zona. I don't get out east but I bet Lees has their own as well.

Stop by and I'll show you how its done. I know that's cold, but its a fundamental of layout, knowing how to wrap text and if yours doesnt' its horrible software.

I've noticed Darla's web designer can't do it well, either, well for sure in Firefox.

Broadcasting has a terrible time serving the metroplex in a two state boundaried area. People want LOCAL. Its why the Sun papers are good. They get it, like Mexican papers get THEIR readerships.

The Star has done it with separate runs, I forget the printing phrase for it, but even big national magazines divide up their runs for advertisers and regional stories.

Oh well. Our blogging software isn't well designed, outfits like the Huffington Post couldn't survive without heavy linking.

Ya just can't one man bad a publication like this or have all your stories just one scroll page. I'm experimenting with effectively using RSS. I'm not there yet because RSS is still a little undeveloped, especially with graphics.

The star and the pitch and yes even the KC free press lays out unrelated news better that we bloggers do who pretty much just have one trick pony software. And why we can't sell it!

It won't last. The net's going to leave us in the dust.

  4. I hope the CALL writes an article about KCPD stupid decision concerning crosswalk enforcement during a major convention. KCPD is as racist as police departments get.

"Terry Riley - Citadel Plaza arrests came down this week and they didn't touch the Council Dude. Riley has withstood a ton of political pressure as of late yet still remains a threat to old school politicos."

We were not indicted this week either, so why are we not on the power list like Terry Riley?

    We think Riley is crooked.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Riley is crooked, and a thug. Tony will see it all clearly soon enough. I love the new signs, the circle implies O'Reilly . . . hope it doesn't hurt him (Oh wait, I hope it DOES hurt him). He LOOOOOOOOVES to accuse OTHERS of racism. Let's see how THAT works out for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Threatt will sing a song and Terry will go down. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Burke the less of all evils? Try just the evil of all evils and you'd be on target. Or is that Rowland? In any event, neither one has a chance. Burke needs to pull out. If he were a man who cared about this city, he would.

  8. Deb, Tony? Really!?!

  9. Jaywalking enforcement is racist? Are you suggesting that blacks jaywalk more than other colors?

Or did Chief Corwin forget to check who was conventioning at Bartle before he doess his job?

  10. -Dave Stephens - Seriously, there is not a more energetic and enthusiastic performer playing this week in Kansas City.

No offense to Dave, but could you be more late to this party? The guy has been around for at least 15 years. Seriously.

  11. Saw Terry Riley down in the East Crossroads passing out campaign flyers.

Seems like he's uncomfortable out doing that kind of stuff. Looked real tight and anxious. Seemed like he wanted to be anywhere but there.

Maybe Henry Rizzo can give him some lessons on how to be a people person.

Terry they do not have to like you. Just threaten them and have some friends who can back it up with some muscle.

Ya gotta know how to deal with fuckn people.

  13. Terry's mind is occupied trying to figure out how to pay the bills. Hell he can't afford the water to fill his pool (90 days late on paying his water bill) so how can he afford his mortgage? Guess the pay back scam money has run dry. Poor = Poor Terry. I read where he is so broke he actually stole money off a dining table to pay his meal tab and this happened 2/16/10,see it for yourself posted to article written 2-28-08 "No One Feels Sorry for Councilman Terry Riley". Shameful stealing from a food server!! His mind is preoccupied on how to scam campaign money to pay his personal bills. Guess the money train has run dry at the city. He is such a loser!

  14. i just read comment posted 2-16-10 and he is a real bum. I must agree with 5:12 SHAMEFUL! my sister is a waitress and if this happened to her she would be heartbroken. Riley needs to go away as they say "run terry run" for the hills. You are a washed up loser and should hide your head in shame you thug

  15. TKC open your eyes Riley is nothing to brag about he is with a capital L a low life scum LOSER

    ReplyDelete
  16. I believe he is broke. He told a city hall staffer lasat month that he didnt have money to pay a cab driver whatever that was. Riley is a disgrace to the City with all of his deals. You do not want to cross hairs with him or elas your job is lost.

  17. my mom says his head smell like castor oil guess he uses it to make his head shine. heard about black ice you cant even see him coming because of the shine that is how slick he is. beware

  18. Saw Terry in public recently and he stinks... literally! Hid his car in the City parking garage for a couple of weeks and made his wife pick him up every day after he left the office (can't say 'left work' because he doesn't work). Word was he was ducking from the repo man who wanted to take his car cause he wasn't making the payments.

Check out casenet and read a bit about Terry. His mishandling of money has quite a history.

  19. Word is out on this guy, we have learned the past couple of days just why your dude Riley is so nervous and anxious.

Over 90 days late on water payment so his service is turned off at his home: car remained hidden in city parking garage so it can not be repossessed (that explains comment made to city staffer about not having cab money), stealing money from table to pay for his meal (area restaurant owners need to be made aware of him lifting servers money from tables), the list goes on and on. His actions are a DISGRACE.

He proudly gave me one of his flyers the other day. After reading all of this, I will proudly use it to pickup dog poop and immediately put in the trash. Dog poop and Riley have something in common THEY BOTH STINK!

This is a repeat posting from another listing but thought it was worth repeating
