Royster Challenges Opponent to “Prove Your Resume” After Facts Reveal A Different Story

Calls on opponent to stop misleading voters about credentials on door pieces and mailers

Historic Northeast Kansas City, MO--- In a statement today, Democrat front-runner Will Royster's campaign is calling on his opponent John Rizzo to “prove your resume” after an interview with the Northeast Newspaper, a door piece and mailer to voters reveal serious discrepancies.


The interview featured in this week’s paper states that John Rizzo is a “self-employed marketing consultant”. Yet, in an interview for the March 14th, 2010 paper, John Rizzo claimed to be working for Northstar Marketing, but failed to identify basic employment facts, such as the location of the business he works for, how long he’s been there and more. Prior to that he worked at a predatory lending company, ran by him and his father Henry Rizzo, on Truman Boulevard.

Also a door piece and mailer which had similar content, claim that John Rizzo is the “only candidate who has lived in Northeast (and still does) his entire life” a claim that Will Royster calls blatantly false and insulting to veterans.

“My family has lived in Northeast for over 100 years, and as a child I was proud to grow up in Northeast with my father, former City Councilman and State Representative Bill Royster. In fact, the only time I wasn’t in Northeast was when I was on active duty, for which I—like many other veterans from Northeast before me---almost gave my life. For my opponent to claim that veterans serving on combat duty are no longer part of Northeast is not only irresponsible but very insulting to our military families. It's time my opponent prove his resume and answer these very serious questions at the heart of his lack of experience and leadership," said Royster.

The two Rizzo pieces in question list five resume items pertaining to John Rizzo, including his occupation, misleading claims that he sits on the Truman Medical Center Board and formerly served on the KC Planning Commission. According to Jackson County, Rizzo’s one term on the Truman Medical Board expired in May 2008, before he lost his third attempt as a candidate, and documents released today by the KC Planning Commission reveal that his "experience" consisted of two meetings on May 2, 2006 and May 16, 2006, until it was revealed that he was a candidate for office and therefore removed due to a conflict of interest.

Will Royster on the other hand has served his nation as a decorated Navy attack pilot, with great honor and nearly lost his life after being shot down breaking his back, neck and shoulder, leaving him barely alive in the middle of the ocean. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri with a Bachelors Degree in Finance. He then attended Middlebury College and the London School of Economics and Political Science where he received Executive Education certificates. Will is also the Vice-President of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood.

Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1986 -1997 where he was Lieutenant Commander, Carrier-based Attack Pilot and Fleet Training Instructor and was honorably discharged as a Disabled American Veteran after his fighter jet was shot down by the Japanese military. He received over 30 decorations and personal citations; was Carrier Airwing Strike Leader, flew over 43 combat missions and 550+ carrier landings. As well as the following:

- Defense Language School Level IV (Qualified for highest level of training).
