Sprint Center Fails Kansas City

There's no anchor tenant for The Sprint Center.

The old school shows hosted at the glass house aren't helping to spark much downtown growth.

The glass-wok-looking-structure keeps getting older everyday and less attractive to potential tenants.

And this town just discovered . . .

THE SPRINT CENTER DESIGN SUCKS AND CAN'T HANDLE A MAJOR LEAGUE CROWD!!!

Here are recent headlines regarding even more of Kansas City's horrible "Downtown Renaissance" failure:

NBC Action News: Some fans have experienced long lines outside the Sprint Center, causing them to miss some of the Big 12 action on the court.

WDAF: Long Lines Have Some Wishing for Second Sprint Center Entrance

At this point I think we all know the long, downward spiral for The Sprint Center is on the way and the place never lived up to promises that it would revive downtown. While crowds of JoCo white people nursing (expensive) beers represents progress in the eyes of so many, the bottomline for Downtown overall simply hasn't improved.

  1. Thanks to Kay for her great legacy to the City and thank her little helper Wayne for making it all happen!

  2. All you have to do is go to the Oak side of the arena. No lines, no hassles, just easy access.

  3. Oak Street side??? That's too close to Troost.

  4. the reason the lines are so long is the security. they act like you're in a fucking airport. and the actual security force is a bunch of rude power hungry idiots who enjoy telling people what to do. they are like a dumber, fatter, uglier version of the TSA.

  5. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! What a non-story. People are so spoiled they literally cannot wait in line for anything. Take a deep breath and suck it up. Why don't you try to go in 30 minutes before tip-off?

  7. There IS a second entrance. If some of these mouth-breathers would mix in a little exercise between beers and smokes, they might be able to walk an extra 50 yards to the other side of the building. No muss, no fuss, everyone's happy.

  8. Actually the Sprint Center people just ripped off their design from the guys who designed the Allianz Arena in Munich.

    Go see for yourself.

The really sad part about the design of the Sprint Center is that they spent their lighting and visual effects money on their totally authentic re-creation of the 1969 version of the Stonewall Inn that's way down below or as they say, down-low in the sub-sub-basement of the arena and the Quik-Trip displays.

Hey Hans - Have you ever even been to Munich to see the Allianz Arena - because I have and to say there is any similarity beyond that they are both round is absurd. But then so is your post. You can't be that stupid can you? Either that or you are still pouting that you didn't win the commission for this - what's Crawford dong these days anyway? Die Hard lozer!

At least you can buy a soda without an unhealthy tax on it like Kansas. Did you hear about their latest idea? That beverage tax should chase all the food and beverage jobs back into Missouri. Yippy! Someone in ED should go after these soon to be disgruntled businesses and bring those jobs here. I think it is a 30% tax increase if you drink a beverage containing sugar. What are you waiting for. Get crackin and go after those jobs. Who knows, we might even get all the entertainment bookings if the sponsors get mad at Kansas and choose to avoid their industry taxation.

  12. The Sprint Center is the third most profitable arena in the United States putting an anchor tenant in it now would make no financial sense.

  13. First, yes the design of the arena does suck but that's not the reason there is no sports team there, that's the city leaders and the arena promoters fault. Second the reason there are long lines is because you have to go through metal detectors at the door and because the idiots waited until the last minute to enter for the game.

  14. All in all Sprint Center is win. It was my first visit to it during the tourney. It's was a really good experience and over all people were great. It would be hard to find a better atmosphere for a big time basketball tournament. If anything P&L is too small!
