Kansas City Earning Tax Is Un-American

About a year and a half-ago TKC accurately reported that the Earnings Tax was going to be increased . . . A bit later there were increased efforts to go after delinquent taxpayers and increase collection efforts - All of which amounted to a tax increase.
This time around Mayor Funky and The City Council have opened the doors to abolishing the Kansas City Earnings Tax With The First Major Exemption.
Here's the Star's take with most of the analysis coming from readers:
"Military combat pay won't be subject to KC's earnings tax"
The TKC Argument . . .
IF SOLDIERS GET A TAX BREAK ON THE WHIM OF ELECTED OFFICIALS THEN ALL OF KANSAS CITY DESERVES THE EQUAL TREATMENT AND THE SAME TAX REDUCTION!!!
Given that the General Fund is absolutely dependent on the Earnings Tax, the result of this politicized and haphazard decision to start giving out Kansas City tax breaks in the midst of a budget crisis is yet another indication that the Mayor and The City Council are now completely focused on reelection and not any semblance or real world fiscal responsibility.
Fun fact . . . Kansas City's support of the troops on the Earning Tax issue is probably going to make a paperwork mess that should cost even more money in order to make a minor rhetorical point.
Still, it's somewhat comforting that Kansas City's Mayor is still following the G.W. Bush playbook circa 2006 while chasing the votes of suburbanites who probably don't understand or care about the details of Kansas City's budget.

It is mind boggling how irresponsible our elected officals really are. The City's financial structure is coming apart at the seams and yet they seem to have discovered a new way to use our tax dollars to pander to the people.
Let us not forget that The Funk, when taking a raise a year or so ago, reminded us that he was worth every penny that the taxpayer was on the hook to pay him.
Funk, you are not worth a dollar of our money. I can't wait until next year and the people send you and your repulsive wife packing.
Up up and away!!! And where you land no one will know or care. On second thought, you will mot likely land where TWA landed... in Bankruptcy Court.
Me, I hope you enjoy commuting to Johnson County where you and crony Jorge Blackwell set up your unsucessful consulting business. That's right, you feckless baboon, we know you created a new business venture and located it in Johnson County. There really is something wrong with you... not that we wouldn't know it from most if not all of your other actions while you have been in the Mayor's Chair.
Someone is going to get up one day on TV and start screaming I'm Mad As Hell And Don't Want To Take It Anymore! Remember that movie, Funk?
Long live the Orange Revolution, the Orange Revolution is dead!
This wasn's a win for Funk Tony. It's the right thing to do for our troops.
Is it "than" or "then".
then refers to time. and IF Then statements.
Than is a comparison
Here's a great guide:

The right thing to do for our troops? How long have the troops been at war? The Funk and cohorts are just attending to this civic need NOW? Right before the upcoming election? How about healthcare and other social safety net services for the poor? How about fixing the roads so that when the troops get back they can drive their cars safely? How about a wage freeze or wage cut for the Council and Mayor to help out both the troops and the down and out of luck citizens? I wonder out loud just how much the Gruesome Twosome gave to charity this year... OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS???????????
Tax income, not property.
inafunkaboutthefunk "How about healthcare and other social safety net services for the poor" Use my city tax dollars for this while our streets and water lines are falling apart? Give me the infrastructure repair first, please.
If you live outside Kansas City, Mo., but work within it and therefore pay the city's earnings tax, then you've earned the right to vote in city elections. Taxation without representation -- does that ring a bell with anybody?
The city doesn't need any more money from us. They already waste whatever we give them.
The more money they get, the more they waste.
Taxes are theft. Theft is immoral. End all taxation for a better society.
10:35:00 AM-- Don't be so stupid! If I buy lunch in Johnson County, I pay the sales tax that those residents imposed on me without my vote! Taxation without representation happens everywhere, all the time. And those taxes DO provide services for non-residents. How would you like it if you were in an accident and the police, ambulance and hospital refused to assist you because you were a non-resident and didn't pay for the services??? How would you like it if the building you work in didn't meet the standards for safety -- elevators, water, structural strength, etc.??? Or there were no traffic signals anywhere in the city??? Give us a break -- you get benefits from the earnings taxes you pay as a non-resident, just as do residents!
10:35 and 10:52: you have both now made a good case why everything should be funded by the state and federal govts. How would it work? Flat rate paid based off income only, abolish property taxes. Schools, cities, and counties (services) all rely on state and federal dollars to operate. It could work. It's fact that the system we currently have doesn't work. Cities, counties, and states keep crying about how they are broke. Rising costs everywhere are to blame for this. High taxes with nothing to show for it will continue to make people question, why do I live here? I left the quiet country life for this? I could go on and on but nobody on here really cares about substance...
No one said there wasn't benefits from the tax. The problem is it drives away people and jobs. 50 years of no population growth is proof of that. People just move out of the tax and that they have.
