Unfortunately, Mayor Funky is screwing up his second job as well . . . Which should leave us all wondering what he actually does effectively . . . Other than defend his wife's racial slurs.
Here is an important missive from AN AWESOME TKC TIPSTER:
"The International Center for Performance Auditing, and its registered agent Mark Funkhouser, of Kansas City, failed to file its annual report with the Missouri Secretary of State.It's interesting that Mayor Funky seems to be extremely horrible with paperwork given that he was supposed to be a "numbers" guy and good with details.
Each registered agent receives a reminder postcard from the Secretary of State’s office in the late spring. Usually this provides an entire quarter for the corporate agent to file a relatively simple form. Filing this report can be done online.
A warning notice was issued on October 2. If the report is not filed before December 1, the corporation is threatened with dissolution."
Still, what is even stranger is that I thought The International Center for Performance Auditing was supposed to be a business and now it sounds like a charity.

I'm pretty sure a big part of that mission statement would be filing paper work on time and has nothing to do with making every day "Bring your wife to work barefoot day" but I'm not a very skilled business dude.
In any event . . . THANKS TO TKC TIPSTERS for letting us all get a better look at The Mayor's busted biz idea turned charity and how his dedication to "transparency" doesn't seem to hold up in his other dealings either.

This is a third venture. First,he is the leader of our fair city. Second, he is a public speaker -- which is a for-profit enterprise. THIRD, he is the registered agent for a TAX EXEMPT non-profit corporation. The non-profit did not file a Form 990 with the IRS this year as required by law on May 15.
Throw him in jail.

Funk can't manage his own business, let alone the city's. What a fucking loser. He lost $85,000 in his campaign finance report, he can't file for his non-profit, and he's screwing up the city something awful.

Unfortunately, failing to file his 990 is not a criminal offense. Failing to pay taxes on income that was received by a corporation could be...
I hope he took out D&O insurance for his board of directors...b/c it is the board who is responsible for maintaining the good standing of a tax exempt org - not the registered agent.
I'm not saying he's not a piece of shit - because he is - but he has help in in fucking this up with his counsel Mr. Blackwood - a tax attorney who should know better than to fuck up a 501(c)(3).
One of the services Funk's corporation provides:
"Capacity building for non-profit organizations and foundations by providing training and consulting on accountability and performance"
I guess "accountability" does not include keeping your good standing with the secretary of state and IRS.

Agreed, however, it is grounds for lifting the IRS Tax Exempt Opinion letter, which should be done.
I also wonder whether UMKC would touch the "Center" if it had no tax exempt letter.
Furthermore, I cannot find a 501 c 3 letter registered to the Center, so I wonder whether Funk and Blackwood (water?) are using a letter from some other entity, which is very dicey.
Blackwood's law license is at risk, in my opinion.
Funk really whould resign if he was a human being because this ethics action will result in HUGE numbers of billable legal hours for the Web site guy (Corwin) and other people named in the ethics report. These people were simply trying to help out a person who claimed to be public interest-oriented, and through no fault of their own will face legal fees, because Funk was actually bleeding the system for personal profit.
Kim Carlos may be the only high-rate consultant who can reach into the fire and save this political career.
Oh God a post with both Funkhouser and Kim Carlos. I am really going to be ill.
