TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY AVIATION DEPARTMENT IS THE NEW CITY HALL DUMPING GROUND!!!

Back in the day The Water Department used to be the place where the shunned and sometimes disgraced City Hall workers used to go to finish out their careers.

Now it looks like the Aviation Dept. is left with the burden of paying for quickly moved City Hall folk as their budget soars and they cry out in desperation.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS SWOOPING IN WITH THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT IS ONE OF MANY REASONS THE KC BUDGET STAYS LOSING!!!

"The increase in the Salaries, Wages and Benefits expense for the Aviation Department (from FYE08 to FYE 09) was due to the following:

$1,700,000.00 Increase in regular wages (Additional employees & job banding)
$526,000.00 Increase in employee pension (Additional employees, job banding and pension accrual)
$77,000.00 Increase in FICA benefits (Additional employees & job banding)
$540,000.00 Increase in Hospital and Life Insurance costs (Additional employees and increase in rates)
$427,000.00 Increase in other post employment benefits (Actuarial estimated increase in 2009)
($465,000.00 Additional employees created reduction in charges
_____________

$2,185,000.00 Increase in wages from 2008-2009

The Aviation Department received several "city hall" employees during that time and then had to pay their retirement when they left the city's employment. We will probably experience the same issues this year because we were assigned several MCI employees when that facility was shut down earlier in the year."

Now, I'm not the right person to do an audit of the Aviation Department but I can infer from the way the term "City Hall" employees was put in quotations that not all of these increase costs come from employees that were in demand . . . On the bright side, it's nice to see City Hall (Slightly) changing their routine on how they send employees with no pull into the sunset.

Too much insider stuff T.

I think we are all consigned to the fact that most of City Hall is a dumping ground.

Now go outside and play.

Didn't the City just retain a new insurance broker? Looks like they are figuring ways to increase their commissions pretty fast!

Anon 3:00... you're criticizing Tony for having "too much" information?

For which department in the City do you work?

You only got a portion of the rip-off. In addition to taking on salary, they are getting pimped for fees to support departments (HRD and PIO) that the Council expressedly wanted reduced.

That insurance broker is trouble. If we had a newspaper in this town they would report on how this guy was chosen and how much he makes in commissions off the city.

KCFD, and soon to be MAST + KCFD, took a wage FREEZE for three years! They actually do something for their jobs, not just sit around and cash checks. This is a disgrace. We're barely hanging on to police jobs with government handouts, but what do these cronies do for the city?
