TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! EVEN MORE DETAILS ON HOW MAYOR FUNKY AND CO-MAYOR SQUITIRO PLAN TO RUIN X-MAS!!!

The season of consumerism is upon us and that means it's time for Mayor Funky and his wife Gloria Squitiro to make Baby Jesus cry with their political maneuvering for the holiday season.

All over Kansas City, awesome TKC TIPSTERS are saying that that the Mayor's wife and her feet are once again stinking up this Kansas City Holiday tradition. Funky interference and nasty political affiliations started with the inclusion of Chris Stigall which TKC TOOK APART FIRST!!!

To wit . . . I want to offer some facts and a bit of back and forth about the Mayor's X-Mas Tree Hot mess.

Will Gregory is Kansas City's most awesome PR dude and he recently graciously provided TKC readers with a bit of insight on what he's doing for The Mayor's Tree Effort.

Naturally, I have to poop all over that bit of holiday kindness.

For a change, I actually did some research and "flavored" his comments with a bit fact checking.

Will's comments will be first and TKC research will follow, sometimes in bold.

Will opens with, "Regardless of politics, this event has been a Kansas City tradition for 131 years. Our job is to see that it continues via increased exposure and participation. Per the following, I hope you'll agree that we are on the right track to a great event and in turn, increased support for local charities during the holiday season."

Charities

MO Heart, Salvation Army: It's not widely publicized, but in recent years the fund has helped needy families by donating Price Chopper gift cards. Last year $39,582 worth of cards were donated by the fund were sent out via MO Heart. If we do our job right - and so far so good - we will do the same or more, this year. And ideally, exponentially more next year.

I'm not a man to correct typos but it’s The Robert Mohart Center, not MO Heart! and The Salvation Army. Important fact, last year the Mayor's X-mas tree fund gave away $44,000 worth of cards.

Hooked On Books, Project Warmth, Toys For Tots: To cast a wider charitable net, so to speak, we have added additional charities to the giving mix. The Junior League's Hooked On Books, KC Star's Project Warmth and Toys For Tots will all be on hand the night of the event to accept donations to their respective charities. Say the catch phrase with me Tony - "a coat or a toy, a book or a buck." Any and all will be accepted at this year's event and in turn be distributed to help those in need.

TKC Response: That's cool and if I needed X-mas charity (even more desperately) I could use somebody to help out with my Chinese food bills . . . Still, that slogan sounds horribly condescending and like something Gloria Squitiro came up with . . . Smells like anyway.

Entertainment

Eric Stonestreet: We were able to get Eric Stonestreet who plays Cameron on ABC's Modern Family, to assist the Mayor in flipping the switch to light the Mayor's Christmas Tree. Eric is a KC area native and his show is the #1 show in the country on Wednesday nights and consistently Top 10 in weekly ratings.

TKC Response: Who? NO ONE knows this guy! Last year’s Rob Riggle was a great guest and had movie credits, SNL and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart under his belt. Additionally, he cracked on Mayor Funky throughout the night and that was funny.

Sponsors

In a short time, we've been able to add some important new support for this year's event and lay the groundwork for next year's event.

Lathrop & Gage: They have come on board as a sponsor for this year's event. They believe in the mission of the fund and have been great to work with.

TKC Response: Development lawyers abound at Lathrop & Gage, so it's not really a big sacrifice but more like a marketing ploy.

Power and Light: I know they get a bad rap from time to time, but the good folks at Kansas City Live have stepped up this year and agreed to donate all proceeds from cover charges on the night of the lighting ceremony to The Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund. It's a great way for folks to have a good time and donate to a good cause in the process and we are grateful for their help.

TKC Response: That's mighty white of them, but I think this deal is on a weekday night and nobody's gonna be there . . . And since the place is so badly in debt and running on City funding . . . That nearly qualifies as a tax credit.

Kansas City Star and INK magazine: In addition to some paid print advertising We got FREE advertising last year we will do with other local media, The Kansas City Star and INK magazine have agreed to partner with us on this year's event with generous in kind support. They've been great to work with.

KMBC 9: Because ABC is home to Modern Family, Channel 9 was an ideal fit for this year's event.

Price Chopper: Not only will they be discounting gift cards (see charities info below) but they have agreed to include event mentions in their advertising.

THEY DISCOUNTED THESE LAST YEAR AND THE YEAR BEFORE, TOO!!!

Mercedes Benz of Kansas City/smartcenter Kansas City: These guys really went above and beyond for us this year by donating not one but two year lease on a smartcar that will be raffled off to benefit the fund.

TKC Response: Last year a one year lease (not a smartcar) was paid for out of the fund. INCORRECT! The lease was paid for by a donation from KC Power & Light/Great Plains Energy, and it was for a car in which you have a decent chance of surviving a crash!

Tension Envelopes: These kind folks have donated the printing and valuable donation envelopes that will be distributed around the city.

While I think Will is great at what he does, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that he received the benefit of a NEW LOGO, NEW WEBSITE and NEW LOOK, all done LAST YEAR at COST by a great ad agency, Firefly Marketing.

MOST IMPORTANT TKC FACT: The gift cards had been mailed by this time last year, so that people would have them in plenty of time for December, and they were mailed in donated card holders and envelopes.

Also, The event had PRETTY GOOD MUSICAL TALENT by the School of Rock band and the KC Chorale. I hear they were okay. They also had fudge (hehe) and hot chocolate and other vendors, who donated their evening’s profits to the event. WHOM DO THEY HAVE??

Now to the sordid topic of coin, the big question here is . . . How much is Will getting paid? Will is a pro and he works for top dollar, he wears those cool kinda beat up looking outfits that are always in GQ and I'm sure are expensive so he must be bringing in some decent cash. It's important to remember that last event's organizers were not paid.

And a douche like Stigall wasn't wishing Merry X-mas only to the white people.

Thanks, as always for the coverage. Am I reading into this or are you down on the Mayor? Anyway, you left out the part where I offered tickets to the event to be auctioned off for the charities on your site! That's still valid if you're willing. Off-topic - I'm always here for a hug. Thanks again and continued success!

Get over yourself! This event is about the charities/children and less fortunate, not political views...but, as small minded as you are, you'll find something bad and make a big deal about it.
Wait...what are you doing for the fund? Are you raising any money?
In keeping with the holiday spirit, you could make good use of your blog and raise money for the fund, or any charity for that matter.

WG does a good job and is a pro. The problem with the event is that Gloria ran around town talking to several companies before deciding on WGPR. She has destroyed the Committee that used to run this event and help promote it. A volunteer committee composed of a diverse group of people would help take poliics out of it. You NEVER heard of this kind of fighting under other mayors when it comes to the Tree.

The charity is worthwhile and we should support it. WG is doing his best with a mess of a situation.

Regardless, we should do the Worlds Largest Festivus Pole anyway.

As a PR pro myself - I can confidently say that this blog isn't worth crap in terms of getting worked up over Tony's hype.

People get paid to do good work, that's how the world goes round.

Luckily, after all the soft-core porn images and bad blogging under the guise of "citizen journalism" - Tony's Kansas City has very little credibility.

Too bad that here, a charitable event with a community focus is the target of your chip-on-shoulder bad attitude.

In all your forthcoming - why don't you disclose how well you are treated and how much you get comped around the city...either through PR guys or connections like Hearne?

Bad mayor, bad city government and now bad blogging - sad for a Christmas community event with a charity tie and an actor that everyone LOVES (ask anyone who doesn't live under a rock!)...that it was attacked, here.

What is political about correcting misstated facts? I didn't read politics into this at all; just T stating the facts about previous tree events. And last year's board was diverse and did not let politics interfere with the charity.

Love the Festivus Pole idea.

All of this - interferes with the charity and the true spirit of the event.

Kansas City needs some positive leadership and sentiment among its citizens - whether that's from local blogs, events or buzz.

Who is on this committee? Dear P R guy, list them out. You signed on to help this decrepit mayor and her wife, funk'd. Name the committee. I ask BECAUSE there are RULES in place as to the composition of said committee. Hope everything is done correctly or else you just got smeared with a poop filled smudge stick. Think I'll donate, again, DIRECTLY to the charities and cut out this mayoral photo op. Funk'd HAS NEVER VOLUNTEERED FOR ANYTHING IN THIS CITY. NEVER. No boy scouts, girl scouts, neighborhoods or what have you. They may point to hosting exchange students but I think Daria (an exchange student) would think unkindly about squit. See, squit thought she was competition so put the girl OUT. And that poor kid who got his butt pinched while visiting the Mayor's office was a exchange student. I do not think they are currently hosting as Tara's current boyfriend is living there. Yuck.
Merry Xmas squit!! It's the most magical time of the year!!!! (except for the magical times on your Wicca calendar.) I am glad that funk'd is keeping you down and out. Makes KC just that much nicer.

I think we have an idea running here - The Mayor's Festivus Tree! But, I hate to see Festivus get ruined by them as well! I feel bad for WG, PR guy. He's just trying to make something out of this load of crap that Mrs. Mayor has run into the ground, as she has everything she has touched. Good luck WG - hope you paid for your work at least. As for Cameron whoever on the lights - I like to think that I don't live under a rock, but I've never heard of him. I saw the show once, so probably saw him, but wouldn't recognize him if I saw him again.

Tony you must live under a rock (or get bad TV reception in your mom's basement) to have missed out on Eric Stonestreet the past few months. I'd think you'd be all over a TV show with a hot Latina in a lead role.

There are plenty of truly great charities in KC--I will give to some of those rather than give to a charity in which Gloria SQUITIRO has any say. Her role previously showed that she is not a philanthropist and doesn't care about those in need in our city.

I would never give to any charity that would have anything to do with Gloria. A lot of other people agree with me.

Cc: Joe Home Miller , Funk Funkhouser
I don't know how this revelation changes the scenario.
This is about power, pure and simple. They think Funk has none. So
they think he's insignificant and they think they don't need him.
That's why Jan got invited to be on the campaign committee and we
weren't even consulted on who would be on it.
That's why Deb and Bill are gone. They don't think Funk can help them.
That's why all of this crap.
Mark needs to show the council in a big way that he has power.
My middle of the night fantasy:
Wayne hatred is the common thread for Deb, Bill and Russ. (It may not
even be enough to break russ up from the new love of his life, Jan.
But it might be, if he's forgiven for all of this. Friday's campaign
meeting was so enlightening to me about how far Russ has gone.)
Get Ajamu and Gwen Grant and whoever else to help convince Sharon to
introduce a resolution Thursday to fire Wayne. Get Deb and Bill and
Russ and John and ... cut whatever deal there is to get one more.
That's your seven cosponsors for the resolution. That's your seven
people that you will stand by no matter what happens the next three
years.
That's your new Housing committee, or maybe your reunited public
safety and neighborhood with Sharon at the helm (I know she didn't
like seeing Cathy's cute little face in today's paper). This change is
so easy to sell it's ridiculous. We just asked for another extension
on the receivership. You showed a year ago that housing was important
to you. You created a whole committee just to deal with this. You are
disappointed with how little has really gotten accomplished. You
pledge to do all you can to fix it. Perhaps you pledge to hire a
staffer with some experience at HUD to help support Sharon. (we would
have to find room, of course)
You say the city manager was the right guy to revive downtown. But he
doesn't have the experience necessary to redirect the city's services
to the neighborhoods. He doesn't have experience with housing. There
must be other reasons you can cite that are not mean-spirited.
The seven will be intimately involved in picking the next city
manager. Maybe you assemble some of them as the search committee. (I
dont' know what Ajamu's resume looks like, but he could sure be
considered)
Maybe as a side note: These seven also support a resolution directing
the city legal staff to develop specific guidelines for family members
who want to help support their elected official spouses at city hall.

I know this is fantasy, but I think if Sharon is mad enough and Melba
or Cathy or ... are self serving enough, it returns the order to the
city council and shows you are not only not weak, you are in charge.
One other Sharon stick in the eye. The campaign committee I saw
included one single face that was darker than mine. It was Leonard
whoever. Sly James was on the list of people supposed to make calls.
Maybe he's on the committee. The bus tax committee had a little bit of
color. This, to me, is damning evidence of the farcical nature of the
63rd street compromise and proof of the touristy frou frou nature of
the thing.
This of course relies on whether or not you think there is not nearly
the support for Wayne that there once was.
This seems like the kind of scheme I shouldn't be putting into an
email, but I don't know when we'll be in a room again together.
I hope today's meetings are going well.

You not knowing about Eric Stonestreet shows how generally clueless you are.

Scene-stealer on season's hottest new show? I bet more people would recognize his face than Rob Riggle.
