TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY POLITICOS CAUGHT MICRO-MANAGING AT CITY HALL!!!

An important letter just made it my way . . . I'll copy and paste the text here because it demonstrates just how mettlesome Kansas City politicos can be . . .

Check it:
Office of the City Council

DATE: April 24, 2009

TO: Wayne Cauthen, City Manager

FROM: Cathy Jolly, 6th District

SUBJECT: Kansas City’s Role in International Economic Development

It is my understanding that there are pending and current international and economic development affairs that need someone representing City Hall to handle. Jo Anna “Jodi” Edgerton has handled these events for the City. Due to this year’s budget, her position has been eliminated.

There are council members who, along with myself, have expressed they would like for her to continue in this role, provided that her employment is financed with outside revenue; meaning private financing, not city funds.

It is my understanding that these outside revenues have been obtained for Ms. Edgerton to continue her service in this area.

The following councilmembers have expressed that Ms. Edgerton continue, provided that no General Revenue or other City funds are used: Jan Marcason, John Sharp, Ed Ford, and Cindy Circo. It is also my understanding that the Mayor and Councilman Skaggs have brought similar support for her efforts in other conversations.

Again, I want to state that we are supportive of her employment provided it is dependent on finding outside sources of revenue and no General Revenue funds or other City funds are used. I believe that her employment is important for Kansas City’s Business and Economic Development.

If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

There are spots for folks to sign . . . I'm not sure how many of them attached their names on the typed copy . . . But here are the folks with their name on the memo:

Cathy Jolly, 6th District, At-Large
Bill Skaggs, 1st District
Jan Marcason, 4th District
Cindy Circo, 5th District At-Large
John Sharp, 6th District
Ed Ford, 2nd District At-Large
Mark Funkhouser, Mayor
Now, what can we learn from this?

Well, the folk attaching their name to this memo, if they signed it, don't really understand the difference between governance and management . . . It's a basic lesson that's taught in most High School Civics classes.

Also, I don't know what these people owe Jodi Edgerton but she must have some major pull if she's able to leave so many Council people obviously putting themselves out there on a limb for one lady keeping a job in the face of so many layoffs at The Hall.

All things considered . . . I just don't like this memo because there are more important problems Kansas City needs to deal with besides giving day to day directives to Cauthen . . . I don't understand the line about the financing of her job but it creeps me out nonetheless . . . Also, I think it's mostly understood that International Trade Development in Kansas City is just another term for "KICKASS FREEBIE POLITICO JUNKET!!!" and I'm not sure if I want the Council managing the finer points of those kind of deals.

Comments

  1. They should just fire him and save us all some time and trouble.

  2. If her job for the city can be paid for with private funds, why can't they all?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Don't get it. Why is Funk going along with it too?

    ReplyDelete
  4. who is paying her salary? they must have bought cathy jolly already. put a sold sign on her.

  5. Cathy Jolly always seems to push for the things that will generate a lot of money for private interests.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Those who signed this memo need to come forward and explain this "outside" funding. WTF???

    ReplyDelete
  7. Seeing there were already 6 comments I eagerly clicked on the link thinking I was about to read some intelligent debate about the merits of "International Trade Development"...then I woke up and realized where I was trolling...and it all makes sense now...freaking shame...this one might have been worth discussing...my bad...sorry for the disturbance, please resume the ignorance.

  8. Not easy to have a debate about the facts when the politicos keep us all in the dark and do stuff like this behind our backs.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So let me get this right. She will be volunteering in City all because her pay will be from private funds not city funds. Is this what Gloria was doing?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes this sort of what the wife was doing. Only there is the family relationship factor. As for this ridiculous office, keep it out of City Hall OR do the right thing and put it out for bid. Sure, private dollars are being used this year, but the creature will sneak back in. They always do. When this office was created Jodi Edgerton sat in front of the council in her little suit and promised that the office just needed a start up. She promised that private dollars would be found. She promised that the office would not be "institutionalized" Here we are 10 years later. Jodi Edgerton's dear friend Kay Barnes is long gone and she is still whining for money. Enough. There is no verifiable evidence that this office has done anything to earn it's keep. The office produced antidotical accounts, put were hard pressed to put real data on the table. The city sponsored junkets to Mexico end this year. George Blackwood and Bonnie Sue will have to find another way to get swine flu.

  11. I don't think you guys get it! Her job was eliminated in the budget, but Cauthen wants to keep her by "pretending" that the general revenue isn't paying for her salary. They're putting him on notice that they are not going to let him play games and want the jobs they eliminated to either be ELIMINATED or paid by money from outside the city.

And no, she is not volunteering; it like a grant paid position in health department.

  12. Cathy Jolly's husband is a lawyer who deals with international trade maybe his firm is paying for her salary.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'll bet Edgerton is a white woman.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thank you T.

The comments tell more than the story and I bet you planned it that way.

    You rock.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's always been about trips to Mexico for Jody, Bonnie Sue, and George B.
The Chamber of Commerce has a person doing this job--let them handle it.

  16. For the Council folk who read this, they should acquaint themselfs with labor law one-oh-one. Check to make sure your personal insurance policies are up to date. Just friggin remarkable.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Give her a job in the public info department. Cauthen wont eliminate that either.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You mean the City Communications Office. Watch the Finance and Audit Committee meetings and see what Cauthen is trying to do for more of his waynettes. Many good employees were shown the door on 4/3, what makes these few so special they get 'special' funding to stay.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If so many good employees were shown the door on 4/3 they should have NO problem finding a good paying job, despite the economy. I mean, hard working, efficient, resourceful, honest and dedicated workers come at a premium. Of course the petty, back biting do nothings might have a problem but there can't be too many of those folks who were working at City Hall, can there?
    AHAHHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAH

  20. The memo was sent because mismanager Wayne Cauthen needs other people to do his job. Why is this incompetent twit still around. His office is full of porn pushers and pediphiles, he makes backroom deals with companies owned by negros that cost the city millions, he sends more millions to his cronies in Denver via consulting contracts... wake up KC. When will Wayne ever get the boot? Come on alreay!
