The outlook for The Kansas City Police Department is grim. Budget cuts WILL HAVE A REAL IMPACT ON THE NUMBER AND SUPPORT OF POLICE ON KANSAS CITY STREETS.
The Star sums up a bit of the damage:
KC police grapple with $10 million in budget cuts Kansas City police might need to ground their helicopters, lose 54 officer positions and force week-long unpaid furloughs to deal with looming budget cuts, Chief Jim Corwin said Tuesday.I understand this is a last minute plea for support which the KCPD desperately needs . . . However, I'm pretty sure these major cuts will become a reality . . . Therefore, it's time to start thinking about options.
And, strangely, all of these budget cutbacks and the dire situation facing law enforcement on Kansas City streets seems somewhat familiar.
In fact, I'm pretty sure this EXACTLY how the police academy movies started out.
Maybe its time for Corwin to go, pressure the board members to resign and start with a clean slate. The KCPD is ineffective even with current resourses, with massive cutbacks the city is in real trouble.

ReplyDeleteDon't care. The response time here is about 10-15 minutes, and I live a block from KU Med. The 39st Merch. Asso. finally just broke down and pay for a rent-a-cop to park on the street and sit there. I don't blame the individual officers, most of whom seem generally competent- but any other industry that did such a scatter-shot job would quickly fail. All any crook needs in KCMO is a watch that can go up to 5 minutes...
ReplyDeletebet the number of pigs with radar guns don't drop. on sunday i drove from waldo to the city market and saw no less than 5 cops writing tickets, 1 on 75th st on a motorcycle, 2 more bike cops on 71 on the way down and 2 on 71 on the way back.
