I know that the Mayor's X-mas Tree Fund is a wonderful cause . . . But "holiday cheer" B.S. and a misguided sense of charity shouldn't stop reporters from documenting facts related to the public appearance of an elected official.
TKC ATTENDED THE MAYOR'S X-MAS TREE LIGHTING AND QUITE A FEW PEOPLE BOOED THE MAYOR AS HE WAS INTRODUCED!!!
It's on tape, newsies from around the metro area must have recorded the sound but they obviously refused to cover this angle of the story and are keeping the public misinformed while playing gatekeeper.
However, in the reporting there's a hint that the crowd was almost half of what it was last year when it was much colder. Media spin wants to blame the failure of the X-mas tree on former Mayor Barnes . . . Nevertheless, it's a fact that at least four volunteers that I'm aware of quit their involvement with the Mayor's X-mas tree Fund last year because of Gloria Squitiro's meddling.
It doesn't matter what media watchers believe . . . I was simply surprised that I wasn't the only person in the crowd booing and the silly argument that Mayor Funky is besieged by nothing but admirers whenever he appears in public was put to rest last night. A great many in the crowd obviously weren't supporting the Mayor that's suing the city and focusing on his wife's feet while this town struggles through a budget crisis.
On the streets of Kansas City, it was abundantly clear to me that Mayor Funky's popular support is tenuous at best and people in Kansas City are quickly overcoming their stereotypical Midwestern politeness in order to express their displeasure with our Co-Mayor.

I caught the Mayor's comment that the X-mas tree fund contributions had be dropping for "years". Perhaps we should audit the committee's actions for the past two years to find out what's really going on. I'm sure Gloria has nothing to hide in her financial dealings with this fund.

So why, at a charitable event, were you, TKC, booing the mayor? And you want the local media to mention your booing? I could think of a much better venue for booing, but I have more class than you.

He even jokes about his gambling in speeches shown on public access, but people put him ahead of a good family man and public civil servant like Mark.

The Mayor was booed at the Mayor's Christmas Tree lighting ceremony last night, I heard it and so did others.
I don't think that has ever happened in the many, many years that I have lived in this town and attended that ceremony!

I work at Crown Center and can see the tree from my building.
For lack of a better description, it sucks. Looks more like a gigantic green pine cone than a Christmas tree. Lots of bare patches; weak, outdated decorations; a whole slew of lights that don't work. The trains and plywood houses are a freakin' embarrassment.
I don't give a fuck if Funk is proud that it's one of the tallest Christmas trees in the country. He's one of the tallest mayors in the country -- and probably the worst mayor of any large city in the country. I'm not proud of our pitiful excuse of a mayor. Nor am I proud of that tree.
Maybe my grandfather was wrong. He used to tell me that shit always runs downhill. With Funkhouser, I think it all floats back to the top.
As usual, was not impressed with Funk at the ceremony. However, crowd seemed about normal - at least about the same as the last 20 years that I've been going.

Funky gambled with the future of Kansas City when he backed Light rail which he first spoke against. He gambles with our image everytime he accepts a guest spot on a national TV program like today.
