Let's blame years of water infrastructure neglect by politicos on local po'folk!!!
I'm not sure if I like the slant of recent coverage by The Star that points out payment discrepancies without providing perspective. Check it: "Kansas City residents will face much higher sewer rates in coming years, but city officials also will seek federal funding and try to provide relief to low-income households." The fact is that the failure to maintain infrastructure has been a failure of politicos like Mayor Funky, Kay and Cleaver along with the various rich people who have supported them. All of these power brokers in Kansas City put their own vanity projects, agenda and careers before looking after basic services in this town . . . And that's why local water infrastructure is so screwed. Passing the blame to lower income people or even slanting stories that way is a misrepresentation of Kansas City's history and neglects to mention the fact that, for the most part, Kansas City's monied class led this town astray.

Let us be clear about the cost of water and sewer problems. The water bill is going to go up in the next few years by 400 to 500 percent. The city council thinks the best way to pay for the needed repairs and green projects is by passing it on to the consumer of the service. While this same council and previous councils gave away tax breaks to develpers worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
agreed anon10:59. sucks. of course, like my asshole landlord says, "well... it was YOUR shit that clogged up the drain, so it's on YOU to pay for cleaning it." and he would be right under most circumstances. but when he learned it was the TREE ROOTs growing into the pipe that was causing the line to back up, and it was HIS tree, he sheepishly changed his tune and now happily (not) pays for the yearly roto-rooter treatment.
