College Radio Newsie Profiles

A couple of KCUR interns are profiled in an interesting line-up of aspiring radio newsies who either have rich parents or have been woefully uneducated about the current job market in this field (like most j-school students).

actually Public radio is growing, the stations focusing on music are the only formats increasing is audience size, and while the economy is tanking for commercial radio, ie: 989 the rock selling spots for under a hundred bucks, non commercial stations are holding their own.

All you need to know to be on KC radio is to overprounce everything, and say your "S's" in such a way so that with the required crisp public radio mics, you can break people's windshields.

Then you write every story with every other word containing S's. Never substitute a Z sound for an S.

And be foreign-sounding. British is good. And if you don't sound enough like Henry Higgins, take on an upscale sounding name like, ummm, Noble. That sounds pretty Tory, doesn't it?

And use lots of natural sound, even if its from your back yard.

And the more obscure and insignificant your story choice, the better.

Thanks, Tony, for your snide comments about two really talented local journalists.
