TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! RUMOR HAS IT: THE HEREFORD HOUSE WON'T COME BACK TO DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY!!!

If all of human history has taught us one thing, it is this: People talk.

There's a lot of speculation regarding the Hereford House fire and now it has been revealed that there were threats made against the establishment before the disaster.

I must admit ignorance as to the nature of the blaze which destroyed the place but what I do know is that word has been circulating that the so-called institution won't rebuild (at least not in its current configuration) in downtown Kansas City.

For a moment, lets pretend that this isn't widely circulating talk that is making its way around the metro . . . A simple look at the facts will provide a bit of insight into the desperate situation of the restaurant that gives this speculation even more credence:

  • Thanks to awesome TKC Tipsters, this blog was the only metro media outlet to note the economically depressed conditions of the neighboring establishments.

  • A lot of people like to discount economic reality and point to the success of the nearby Crossroads District but then refuse to acknowledge the economic and demographic reality which easily explains: Crossroads hipsters don't eat a lot of steak!!! Even a casual observer will acknowledge that business was off in the downtown Kansas City Hereford House location.

  • Finally, even more TKC Tipsters point to a spike in recent downtown/Crossroads crime that in and of itself might have led to a change of location for the Hereford House.

Again, I'm not making a prediction . . . I'm just reporting the gossip that is already out there and revealing, yet again, that the promise of a Downtown Renaissance has now been revealed to be a complete lie as evidenced by the smoldering ashes of a classic KC restaurant along with crime-ridden Downtown streets.

    3. Dang dude. That's some depressing shit but I think you're right about the Crossroads. Those people weren't taking the walk to eat at Hereford's.

    4. Two words: Johnson County.

    5. Now I would like to do some bare back riding on that little filly !!

    6. Does Johnson County really like overcooked horse meat enough to support another Hereford House?

    7. Doubt that crime had anything to do with the place's level of business. The restaurant owns several other locations and there are a growing number of steak places around Kansas City. I'll bet that the mini-chain itself was cannibalizing business from the downtown location.

I'm a vegetarian, so I don't care. I did take a friend to HH last year and we both found that their food was pretty good.

    8. Wow. An "exclusive" rumor. Your "reporting" is even worse than my "columns".

    9. rhonda... don't be a dumbass... this is a freakin' BLOG. at least tony admits he uses rumors, innuendos and maybe outright lies as his sources.

    10. OMG....that is such old news. They were closing that location before the bomb. This is an insurance gift to them. They only controled a small part of that building and it was sold last year.

My first thought was they blew it up for the insurance money.

    11. Anon 11:22 you're the dumbass. Tony claims his post is an exclusive, leading to the fact that he knows something about the "fire, bombing, whatever". Then in his last paragraph he tries to distance himself from whole thing by saying it's only reporting what's already out there. It pretty much discredits him everytime he uses the dick phrase "TKC Exclusive".

Perhaps the ATF would like to talk with Tony after getting a copy of this blog.

    12. You people read blogs too much.

      ReplyDelete
    13. I doubt Tony even bothered but I did a google search and found out that the Lawrence location of the Hereford house was closing. Is that what you're talking about JoCo Everyman? Because they have more than one location.

    14. anon 12:47... you forget the premise of this blog, in that it is not (imo) serious, journalistic reporting and his TKC Exclusive banner is no better or worse that the "breaking news leader" that every damn TV station in town pretends to be. tony can speak for himself, but i don't think he's worried if overuse of the phrase cast doubts on his credibility.
