    Before cleaning guns make sure that the gun is empty. For revolvers make sure there are no live rounds present in the cylinder. If the pistol is semi-auto, make sure the slide is locked in the open position. Remove the magazine. Once again make sure there are no live rounds in the chamber. Simple as that.
