A British newspaper reports: "Previously unseen footage of The Beatles playing an unscheduled gig during their first tour of America has been found lying in a drawer after 44 years." Two fun facts that TKC noticed: Like everything in Kansas City, the concert was marked by controversy: "The gig at the Municipal Stadium in Kansas was controversial because of the unpopularity of Charles Finley, owner of the Kansas City Athletics Baseball Team.
The local press urged a boycott of the concert in protest against Finley and as a result the stadium was almost half empty."
Also, I think the Brit paper believes that Municipal Stadium and KC were/are in Kansas, but just about every musician who visits this town makes that mistake as well.

Cool! I sent it to my mom. She was at that show!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ben Folds was at UMKC earlier this year, and he said something about go KU (I think it had to do with basketball). Everyone booed, and then he made up a song about fucking up. Then the Tings Tings were at the P&L, and they said it was there first time in Kansas, but I think because they're from England, no one really expected them to know the difference.
