Thankfully, not every local leaders is buying into Mayor Funky's lame "holistic" approach when it comes to fighting crime . . . Mainly because his silly economic development program seems to be nothing more than a way to offer political payoffs.
KCPD Chief Corwin has a much more direct and better plan to fight crime:
In a meeting with neighborhood leaders this past week, Police Chief Jim Corwin said he plans to ask the city to hire 50 new police officers in 2009.The Northeast News reports that this is a departure from last year when Corwin said he did not think it was appropriate to ask for new officers or funding for his department in light of a budget crisis. TKC contends that this might be a sign that the KCPD Chief is (wisely) no long aligning himself with the mostly marginalized Mayor Funky. However, the move isn't that drastic considering that it simply fulfills a promise that was made to this town long ago.
More cops on the street is a much better way to fight crime than Prof. Funky's failed crackpot theories that have seen a dramatic increase in local crime and have (thankfully) inspired other leaders in Kansas City to step away from the failed strategy.
Crime is a revolving door. Sure, arrest those who violate the law, but also provide opportunities so they don't feel like they have to in order to get a decent size piece of the pie we call capitalism. Right now, street crime is disproportionately done by people with few economic opportunities; white collar crime where people are killed and m(b)illions are stolen is more or less celebrated. To be sure, I don't believe the mayor has a clue what to do in his holistic approach, except to hope that everyone learns their place and stays in it - you know, karma. The wealth is too visible - all of us want some.
ReplyDeleteHmmm after looking at the picture at the top of this message from Tony I do believe we need to hire more deputies of the female persuasion. Yes, in DEE DEE.
ReplyDeleteFix the courts not the cops.
ReplyDeleteSheriff Sharp should know that most female officers don't like men.
