Financial geniuses throwing away good money after bad in Kansas City
Proponents of light rail said in a news conference Wednesday that light rail would further spur economic development in downtown Kansas City.
Let's see . . .
The Sprint Center was supposed to revive Downtown . . . It didn't. And there's still no anchor tenant.
The P&L District was supposed to draw transform the downtown economy . . . It hasn't. In fact, it has only helped to close a lot of neighboring businesses.
And now light rail is the latest BILLION DOLLAR SCHEME devised to save Downtown . . . Here's a simple TKC QUESTION:
IF HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF TAXPAYER INVESTMENT INTO DOWNTOWN HASN'T MADE MUCH OF AN IMPROVEMENT, WHY SHOULD KANSAS CITY SPEND ANOTHER BILLION ON A BAD PLAN?
And yet again, this topic ignores the fact that Kansas City needs cash to pay for crumbling sewers and maybe just a bit of investment into long forgotten local neighborhoods.

Why, indeed, Tony?
The basic questions of ilght rail have not been addressed:
No route.
No start point. No stop point.
No total cost.
No station locations.
No ridership figures.
No revenue projections.
No...no...no...no...
In short, nothing except a simpering, wimpering "we gotta havt it to keep up" whine.
Keep up with whom?
Send the Mayor a message next Tuesday. Vote NO! on light rail.
Keep it up, Tony - keep getting that message out there.
I agree completely with anon @ 7:35.
I want a MAYOR who works!!!
Light rail if done righ could generate money as a moving billboard. Each rail car is 90 feet long and with two cars to a train, we can have ads or 180 foot long billboards. Some buses have these ads now.
or se can allow the grafetti artists free expression at stations for a small fee. We could sell the right to name each train. Like one train coulc be called the Condimnation Express (paid by HNTB). Another could be called the Public Be Damned (paid for by the South KC Coalition).
The Funkhousers are not wrong. They see real progress here.
