Hey, it only took a flurry of metro murders to make Kansas City's Mayor pretend to do something about crime!!!

Last weekend gun violence in Kansas City was nearly out of control . . . The high temperatures have seen a significant increase in gun related crimes i.e. a bunch of dead bodies on metro streets.

In order to address this situation . . . Mayor Funkhouser is joining a club!!!

Standing behind a cache of recently confiscated fire arms, Mayor Mark Funkhouser will join city officials and fellow Mayors from across the metro to announce his intention to join the National Coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The press conference will be today, August 5, at 11:45 a.m. outside Police Headquarters, 1125 Locust.

Mayor Funkhouser will be joined by Councilmember Cathy Jolly, Chair of the Public Safety and Neighborhoods Committee and Chief of Police Jim Corwin, as well as several area mayors who are already members of the coalition: Mayor Joe Reardon of Kansas City, Kansas; Mayor William Rodgers of Edwardsville, Kansas; and Mayor Carl Wilkes of Merriam, Kansas.

I wonder if any reporter will note:

MAYOR FUNKHOUSER ALREADY PROMISED TO JOIN THIS COALITION LAST YEAR!!!

In fact, TKC exclusively documented the Mayor's failure to live up to this promise and the fact that he skipped out on the group's conference last time around.

I'm thinking about going to this event but I don't know . . . I wonder if anybody will bother mentioning his previous statements on this front and point out his obvious opportunism.

Also, these kind of showy press conferences are exactly what he said he wouldn't do and criticized Kay Barnes for . . . Leadership by press conference.

It's not exactly inspiring.
