Bar Natasha Backlash!!!

Okay, I know that I blame everything horrible that happens downtown on the Power & Light District but more informed Kansas City people tell me that there a lot of interesting reasons for the demise of Bar Natasha closing. Check it:

  • "High cost of child care" was cited as a reason for closing? HAH!!! This is just funny because it was obviously someone being very glib with the reporter and then the being quoted without the note of irony. It's a predominantly teh ghey bar and their clientèle don't have kids for the most part. In other words, the statement was a joke that the reporter didn't relay.

  • According to one customer: They never were designed for high volume business with long lines at any events and slow bartenders.

  • The drinks were over priced - In other words they were too ahead of their time when it came to the $9 beer served at Electric Ave.

Finally, this juicy anecdote from a TKC Tipster kind of confirms the mismanagement of the place . . .

"For some ungodly reason they'd insist on making drinks with freshly squeezed juices during events when the bar was packed. I'd literally wait 20 minutes for a beer and finally give up."

While I object to Fruity Ass Drinks on GP, I understand the frustration and if a local teh ghey bar can't keep up with the demand for ghey drinks then there really was something wrong with their business model.

Nevertheless, these kinds of weaknesses were not exposed until the P&L District came about and all of the recent bar closings were not anticipated as an effect of the multi-million dollar investment in downtown. Electric Avenue was supposed to revive downtown not thin the herd in terms of Kansas City entertainment options.

    1. Rather they closed because of PnL is debatable. The PnL impact can be seen all over the rest of the city.

    2. Maybe the place closed because the service sucked, the drinks were too expensive, and the entertainment was tired and worn out. Shit happens, bars close. That's called capitalism. Only in the P&L District can a business expect to be propped up by the government.
