Kansas City's Killer Rap Scene

I know there is a great diversity of rappers in Kansas City hip-hop with a variety of different styles and genres represented. However, there is no denying that rap music in this town has its roots in gangland, drug dealing hobbists along with a variety of thugs who aren't afraid to get violent or commit murder.

Therefore, it's somewhat of a relief that an extremely violent chapter in Kansas City's rap history is closing with the conviction of the guy charged with killing Fat Tone.
A jury found a 37-year-old San Francisco rap music figure guilty in the slaying of a Kansas City rival in what authorities called a West Coast versus Midwest rap war.

Andre "Mac Minister" Dow faces life in prison after being convicted Monday of first-degree murder in the May 2005 killings of 24-year-old Anthony "Fat Tone" Watkins of Kansas City, Mo., and Watkins' friend, 22-year-old Jermaine Akins.
And of course all of the violence and killing associated with this epoch in Kansas City's rap history is unfortunate but what strikes me as even worse is that none of it produced any music that was even halfway decent. Say what you will about Tupac and Biggie but at least a great collection of songs came out of their demise. True to unlucky Kansas City form, the only thing that resulted from a lethal rap battle involving this town was a lot of disappointment and tragedy waged to sub par beats, meaningless lyrics and mostly incompetent production. File this under the "die trying" portion of the stupid axiom touted by 50 Cent.

I really like your insight. I am so tired of all of these guys who say that they are "rappers" but the only rapping that they do is in their friends homemade studio in the basement of their momma's house. It does not take much talent to write raps about killing and cursing. Really talented writers/rappers can rap about anything and make it sound good!
