TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY'S SPRINT CENTER DOESN'T WANT TO WORK FOR CONVENTION BIZ!!! WAL-MART TURNED AWAY IN HOPES OF NHL ANCHOR!!!

TKC Tipsters know a hella lot about Kansas City and they don't like the way Downtown Corporate entities are taking this town for a ride simply because they seemingly forget that their shiny new facilities belong to taxpayers first and foremost.
The latest example:
WAL-MART IS APPARENTLY TAKING THEIR $15 MILLION CONVENTION OUT OF DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BECAUSE THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS ASSOCIATION CAN'T SECURE THE SPRINT CENTER FOR THEIR VISIT!!!
Why? Well, obviously the Sprint Center needs an anchor tenant but in the meantime they are eschewing a bunch of other business that could bring in much needed revenue. Word is that the Sprint Center is hard to book for "social events" and the convention biz is being brazenly turned away. Even worse, officals at the arena are simply sitting on their hands and hoping against hope that an NHL team will come along and save their necks . . . They're not working to book anything more than crusty, washed up rock acts in the meantime.
Basically, the Sprint Center which receives the majority of its funding from hotel/rental car fees will not work with the city to help secure much needed, large conventions while holding out hope for a NHL team that is at least 3 years away . . . Or maybe never when the example of the Penguins playing this town for a fool is any indication.
Here's the way things look now for The Sprint Center:
No anchor tenant.
No convention biz in the meantime.
And generates very little ancillary revenue.
As of now the Sprint Center can almost certainly be described as an interesting looking building but an abject failure in terms of creating the elusive "Downtown Renaissance."

They're right to want an anchor tenant. That's the only thing that'll save them.
I think they are rejecting them because conventions don't make good use of the killer base included in the sound system.
Chimpo, moron, whatever...
First off, it's spelled BASS, genius. Secondly, Sprint Center doesn't have a sound system they use for concerts...it's merely a PA and it isn't on for concerts. Tours bring and mix their own sound and it isn't the responsibility of the area.
Good try though!
I keep hoping the anchor tenant will be roller derby.
back that thang up.
The problem is that the Sprint Center isn't really built for conventions. It's a sporting arena Tony so I don't blame them for wanting a real sports team to fill it. I just hope they would hurry up and find one. I think it is a lot closer than 3 years and could happen soon.
I would like to know why Tony keeps bashing what goes on at the Sprint center when Wayne Cauthen was instrumental in putting together that deal. Why isn't Tony going after the crook Wayne Cauthen like he does the Mayor. I'll tell you why... Tony is nothing but a race-bater that hates white people. Put blame where blame belongs. Make Wayne Cauthen answer for what's going on at the Sprint Center! Everyone is right that the tax payers are footing the bill; but no one seemed to care when Wayne Cauthen lined the pockets of the colored guy at Perfect Output with Copier-gate. Wayne would sell his mother for a buck and now the city is suffering for it.
I think the blame lies more with AEG but you certainly have an interesting theory.
The city negotiated a crappy deal with AEG (Sprint)and like most everything else they, gave away the house.
whew. I thought you were goin' to say it was all because of Los Raza. Since Wal Mart does employ minorities.
Wal Mart is spending 15 mil on something? That'll be a lot of ham and cheese sandwiches! Wait...take that back...it's Wal Mart...that'll be a lot of ham sandwiches for convention dinners. Those people would be lucky to get pickles on the side.
ha!
Respek Wal-Mart......
Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't.
But can you cite a source for any of this? Did you even bother to call someone at Sprint Center to see if your source even knows how to wipe his butt? (Don't bother, we know the answer to that one.)
When newspapers are dead and all we have left to depend on are citizen bloggers like TKC and his fellow losers, then God help the republic.
Hey, Tony. Since you and your "tipster" didn't provide any details, I'll have to fill in some for your readers.
The meeting Chorizo and Bozo are talking about is the "Year Beginning" meeting. It's been held in KC at the convention center every year since 1997. The Sprint Center won't get the 2009 meeting because it's already scheduled for the last week of January at the convention center. How do I know? I CALLED the convention center and asked.
Now I see why Tony likes to call this a "joke" blog. Why bother to make phone calls, do some research, investigate things for yourself, or be a responsible blogger? All Tony has to do is rely on family members and "tipsters" for information. If it turns out to not be true, Tony can just say it's part of running a joke blog.
Of course, being responsible (or objective, or fair, or whatever adjective seems appropriate) doesn't suit Tony's style. That's not how they roll in Rita's basement, is it? Hanta yo --
He might be a racist redneck? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
The Sprint Center won't get the 2009 meeting
So it's true. Damn.
You would think for 15 million they might have rescheduled.
Anon 2:48 -- right. The Sprint Center isn't getting the Walmart convention. The important fact here, though, is that the convention is NOT leaving Kansas City. It's staying right here at the convention center for at least 2009.
I can understand the reasoning on both sides. For the convention center, it's a major client (Walmart) that brings hundreds of executives and thousands of potential vendors to Kansas City during an otherwise slow time of the year for conventions (late January). For Walmart, it's familiarity with the location (and its management), better access to freeways, closer proximity to some of the downtown hotels, more flexible exhibit space, and a lower price, with the Power & Light District's amenities still within walking distance or a worst a short cab ride away.
Bottom line? Kansas City is still getting the convention. The Sprint Center isn't. Now, why didn't Tony mention that?
Wrong the convention isn't coming here.
Haha, it looks like a reporter who Tony scooped is getting mad.
bet the ranch...Wal-Mart will announce they are taking their convention from no later than 2010 and there is a better than 50/50 chance it will happen for the scheduled Jan. 09 convention.
